Rock Band 2 - too soon?

It's officially official -- Rock Band 2 is on the way. And while most of the gaming community is falling all over themselves with excitement, I can't help but feel that it's a little too soon. Let's just take a quick peek at what we know so far;

  • September release date
  • DLC will work with both RB1 and RB2
  • improved instruments (including wireless guitar for 360)
  • improved character and band customization
  • gameplay mode specific for those who want to sing and play guitar

IGN broke the new this morning and the article is well worth a read for any living room rock'n'rollers out there. The point Harmonix seems to be trying to get across is "we listened, we fixed, now it's yours." And while I appreciate the sentiment and look forward to the improvements, doesn't this just feel like Rock Band 1.5 to you? Something Harmonix had to bang out to contend with Guitar Hero World Tour?

Whether you agree or disagree with me on this one, I'm sure we can all agree on this: the new guitar is fucking sweet.

What say you?

If the DLC I've already bought didn't work in Rock Band 2, I'd not only claim it to be "too soon" but probably have some choice words for Harmonix as well.

As it stands, when the game finally hits it'll be about a year after the first game, so it's really not that soon. I think it feels skewed since Rock Band 1 still routinely makes headlines. Plus we all still play it.

Hooray! September release, Welp, looks like this is what will be my birthday present to myself this year. Not as good as a Motorcycle like last year or a .44 Magnum as the year before, but still a good present none the less.

you can combine last years presents and become 'RENEGADE." throw in Rock Band 2 and it can be that special episode where Renegade... plays Rock Band 2.

Perhaps also it seems a little soon because Rock Band for the Wii only came out this past week? And can't say as I disagree with the Rock Band 1.5 feeling, but I have to wonder... what would you want in a Rock Band 2? With all honesty, I'd like to know - 'cause I can't really think of anything. I'm a major proponent of "If it isn't broke, don't fix it." Other than supporting the already existing DLC and fixing a few minor issues, what else is there?

IF the UK release is the same as the American release, then Rock Band would have only been out for 4 months before the sequel comes out. Thats an even shorter gap between FIFA games!

I just bought Rock Band last week. I hope they keep releasing DLC for RB1 while RB2 is out. But they probably won't.

Between this and Rogers' BS iPhone Plans I'm not getting along with technology vendors at all.

Brent:

Since the DLC for Rock Band 1 is compatible with Rock Band 2 I would guess you'll be able to buy the DLC and run it in either game. At least that's my hope.

This isn't Guitar Hero we're talking about here smilies/smiley.gif

This is selfish, but I think it's too soon because I'm a damn sucker when it comes to "new and improved" and will have to figure out some way to justify this to my fiance. Yet another toy plastic guitar and drum set for the living room. She's going to love it.

Unless they add some must have feature.. I might pass.

Honestly, it sounds more like an expansion pack than it does sequel. It'd be nice to have a much less stringent World Tour mode (each band has to have the "leader" logged in and playing every time? I'm sure that idea looked better on paper), and an online World Tour mode would be much appreciated as well.

One sweet feature would be to have all of Rock Band 1's disc tracks to be "importable" into Rock Band 2, but that won't happen.

Too soon.

Just can't think of what they could add that I would find irresistible.

Also WTF is with the PS3 delay?

The guitar/singer mode sounds cool. I tried it with one but I think require vision that evolved in an entirely different way.
