Sakaguchi badmouths Sony

The latest issue of EGM just showed up in my mailbox, and in it is a fantastic interview with Final Fantasy creator and MistWalker founder Hironobu Sakaguchi. In it he talks about a number of cool things; the success of western developers with MMO's, his time playing Final Fantasy 12, and his upcoming 360 project still shrouded in mystery Cry-On. But the most surprising part? He was pretty candid about why he isn't gonig to be working with the PS3;

"I'm not interested in the Playstation 3. The machine's architecture is tricky, and I don't like Kutaragi."

So there you have it. Kutaragi's rampant foot-in-mouth disease has affected more than just the company's bottom line - it's turning developers off of the console entirely. Now that Kutaragi has announced his upcoming retirement, maybe Sony can try to turn Sakaguchi and others like him around.

As much as everyone loves to point the finger at the negativity of Kutaragi and Sony as a whole, I still respect Kutaragi as a engineer. He may not be the worst PR guy, but I admire him for pushing the industry even at times when some people (everyone with a Videogame Degree from Internet Forum Degrees R Us) felt his choices were unnecessary.

Truth be told, most of us would never be able to last through the onslaught that he recieves from fanboys and girls everyday. I think the internet has both helped and harmed the industry. Granted Sony and Kutaragi have put their feet in their mouth to the point that Kutaragi's breath must smell like he's the MVP of Sony's company kick ball team. But the internet makes everyone spread like a wildfire.

Just a few weeks ago, MS was the company of champions. Then what happened? They want to charge for content that EPIC wants to deliver for free, Guitar Hero DLC prices, and the Elite, and the internet turned on them like a light switch. Its like, no company is allowed to make their own decisions without everyone crying foul. I understand people getting upset for different reasons but some people were already claiming that MS is starting to fall off for those reasons.

The only company able to do whatever they want and people still stick with them religiously is Nintendo. It makes me laugh.

i can agree with not liking kutaragi. that's personal shit. but not programming for a system because it's "tricky"? that's lame. lazy. stupid. dead weak. ah, the list goes on.

Yeah it is weak. The lead developer for Ninja Gaiden Sigma said it best when he called out all the developers who complain about PS3 being to difficult to program for. He said, "It sounds like an excuse to the consumer to us." couldn't be said any better. Also, I'm to the point where I'd rather play something like Oblivion or Mass Effect than another JRPG. I've had my fill to last me a lifetime. But that's just my opinion.
