Sony PS3 software update fixes backward compatibility issues

Now Sony, isn't this better than telling us the problem doesn't exist? Anyone trying to play games like Okami, SotC, Final Fantasy XII, Metal Gear and others on their PS3's have been plagued with the same problem, they look like total and utter ass. In the case of Okami and Metal Gear the games were damn near unplayable.

Well, Sony has swept in and saved the day! Updating the system software to 1.5 this morning seems to have solved the problem of backward compatibility. I'll be trying out a few games tonight to make sure but Okami looks good... fantastic even.

One less reason for my PS2 to remain hooked up to the TV. Course it's not going anywhere any time soon, Guiter Hero 2 is still the game I play most and I refuse to spend 15 bucks on a memory card adaptor in order to copy my Final Fantasy XII saves over to the PS3.

I think I've accepted the fact that my purchasing of a PS3 isn't an "if" anymore, but a "when." As such, when Sony takes steps like this to fix things that were roadblocks to my buying the system, I can't help but smile.

Haha, Jim... mine is a when too, but when is defined as when it drops to $300 or less.

That's what it was for me ...until I played the Motorstorm demo. Now I'm justifying the hell out of it to myself. For example;

"Well I paid $500 for my 360, and $200 for my HD-DVD Player - so I'd really be SAVING $50 on a PS3!" (CDN Prices)

Playing that demo turned me around pretty quickly. I went from "The PS3 isn't any better than the 360, so why would I want one?" to "The PS3 isn't any better than my 360, and I LOVE my 360 - so why wouldn't I want one??"

I've decided to wait until there are at least 6 games available for purchase that I want to play. Right now it's just MotorStorm (which isn't even out.) And since I've said from day one that MGS4 will be on the 360 (and I'm standing by that) it's just not a PS3-reason for me.

i'm so glad the stigma of price and sony's pr are finally slipping into the background and people are seeing it for what it is; damn good hardware with lots of gaming potential.
