South Jersey PS3 Line Up

I found myself over in the Deptford Mall area at Target today around 1:30pm EST and as I was pulling in the parking lot there they were, three people already sitting in chairs outside the store. After parking I wandered over and had a small conversation with the first person in line, a woman somewhere in the late thirties to early forties.

Me: "So, PS3 or Wii?"

Her: "PS3"

"Do you plan to keep it or flip it"

"Keep it"

"How long have you been here?"

"Since about 10:45 or 11"

"Do you have a High Def TV?"

"No, but we'll probably get one eventually."

"So you don't plan on taking full advantage of the Blu Ray capabilities?"

"No, but the regular Blu Ray players are at least $1000."

"You're right. Do you have a 360?"

"No, a relative has one. We have a couple of PS2s, some portables and a PS1."

The woman behind her looked to be in her early fifties, if I had to guess. There was a young couple getting in line behind them. When I left the store a little while later (where they had a couple of Wii accessories out as well as some PS3 games: Resistance, NBA 07 and Genji) the line had probably tripled with the first tent being set up. Luckily there is a Best Buy right across the street so I drove over there to find a line that stretched out across half of the front of the store. There were at least three tents and probably 30-40 people, or more than the store has systems for anyway most likely. I didn't see any elaborate entertainment set ups but a few folks had their handhelds out. Most looked to have a DS or GBA...no PSPs in sight when I visited anyway.

Personally, there's not many things I would put myself through that for but evidently the magical draw of the new PLAYSTATION has them entranced enough to wait outside of a store for a couple of days. Luckily for them we're having unseasonably warm weather for New Jersey at this time of year. Let's hope the system and games live up to their expectations.

i can understand waiting twenty four hours, but days is ridiculous. i'm excited for the ps3, but if i couldn't get one launch night, i'd wait until it was easy to just walk in and get one. you should have asked them what they were planning on playing.

If you wait 48 hours in line, and manage to see your PS3 for $2000, you end up making just over $41 an hour. Not exactly worth it. Especially because storms are rolling in for tomorrow
