Space Invaders Extreme out and ready for import (and maybe a localization)

This year is the 30th anniversary of Space Invaders, and Taito is celebrating in style with the release of a new Space Invaders game. But this one isn't just some port of the arcade original, it's been extreme-ified. While I'm usually leery of anything with "extreme" in the title, this one has me hooked.

It's been called a mix of Space Invaders and REZ, so for me this might be the world's more perfect game. I remember seeing screenshots a few months back, but now the game is out in Japan for both the DS and the PSP. Luckily for us westerners both systems are region free, so we're free to buy whatever software we want for it. And if you're looking for an import friendly title, this might be right up your alley.

Of course if you're import-phobic you might still be able to check the game out, as an English release is rumored to be in the works to be published by SquareEnix. Nothing definite though, and there's no way I'm waiting. I ordered my copy for the DS this morning. I figure if it comes out in the states, I'll pick it up for the PSP if I like the DS version.
