Headlines in Horror

It's Friday again and that means I'm here to dish out your weekly dose of all things horror.  This has been a week that demonstrates quality over quantity in its news; there were a few surprises, newly announced games, DLC updates, and new releases.

Dead Rising 2 Now Official

Capcom has confirmed that the sequel to the zombie slaying hit, Dead Rising is currently in development, and not only that but Dead Rising 2 will be going multi-platform.  So PS3 users might get to play it or that could just mean the game will be out on 360 and PC.  According to Capcom the sequel will bring a "new level of zombie-killing fun with tens of thousands of zombies" and a "chance to kill them in fun ways in the gambling paradise of Fortune City".

Some details on the story have been leaked as well: Dead Rising 2 takes place several years after the zombie outbreak in Willamette, Colorado where the virus was not contained and has spread throughout the US.  The game is being developed in partnership with Canadian developer Blue Castle Games and several members of the original Dead Rising team are working on it including Keiji Inafune who is the game's Producer.

Left 4 Dead Survival Pack is FREE!

The price of the upcoming Left 4 Dead DLC (that will be out sometime this spring) has finally been announced and that price is....00!  That's right!  Nothing, nada, zip, zero, zilch...I'm running out of words... so it's free, and that is great news.

Left 4 Dead

If you didn't know already, the Survival Pack includes a new Survival multiplayer mode where up to four players set records for longest time surviving against hordes of the Infected on over twelve maps.  Dead Air and Death Toll are now unlocked for Versus Mode and PC users will also get the SDK so you can start making your very own campaigns.  Did I mention the DLC will be free?

F.E.A.R. 2 reviews are in

If you enjoyed the demo then now you can buy the game.  The reviews are in and FEAR 2 has been getting the reviews I expected it to get with its scores averaging in the low 80's.  Critics are praising its great visuals, satisfying combat, fear factor, and atmosphere.  The elements that aren't getting much love are the repetitive and uninspired environments, and weak multiplayer.  Basically, if you enjoyed the first FEAR, and you found the demo fun, then there's a good chance you'll enjoy FEAR 2.

Well I look forward to playing it on the 360 when it drops in 2012. Where the fuck is my TF2 content, you bastiches?!?!?!

I have to say that F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is a lot better than the reviews would have you believe. It's not exactly ground breaking but the action is fast and frenetic, the horror elements are weird and pant-wetting in nature and the sound effects are great. What's not to like?

The mech sections are a bit odd, but this is from the folks who brought us the spectacularly cool Shogo: Mobile Armour Division. Respect to Monolith, whatever the detractors say this really is a very good game.

I agree with you in that FEAR 2 is a good game, I'm about half way through and my major complaints so far are the repetitive environments and the constant wave after wave of the same enemies. But so far it's a decent game, although it is very similar to the original FEAR.
