After a rather lengthy hiatus, The Headlines in Horror drags its mutilated carcass out of its grave to haunt you, or more specifically, your eyes! If absence really does make the heart grow fonder, then you probably can't wait to see what you've missed, right? This week's headlines include some Resident Evil news, the revival of a beloved magazine, and some Left 4 Dead 2 updates, all after the jump.
Resident Evil: Afterlife Goes 3D
I enjoyed the first Resident Evil film, the second was dreadful (though Nemesis was done extremely well, and besides some terribly special effects (the crows looked awful) the third was mostly passable. Apparently, Afterlife has jumped on the reboot bandwagon (joining Batman, Terminator, 007, among others) as a revival of the (film) franchise. Even if you're not necessarily a fan of the films, here are four reasons to check this one out:
1. It stars the sultry Milla Jovovich (need I say more?) 2. Paul Anderson has taken the helm again (he directed the first, and best, Resident Evil film, but only wrote and produced the sequels). 3. Supernatural's Jensen Ackles may be playing RE4's Leon S. Kennedy (not yet confirmed). 4. The movie uses the same 3D technology James Cameron is using for his upcoming sci fi epic Avatar.
Resident Evil Games Unsure Where to Shuffle to Next
I liked Resident Evil 5, but it doesn't even compare to its predecessor. I've thought the Resident Evil series needed to return to its roots for awhile now, and it looks like that may be happening. Not even the developers know where the series will go to with the next installment, but I highly recommend they consider going back to horror.
I also want zombies. Lots of them.

Apex Magazine Returns!
Technically, it never left as it just went online only, but now sci fi and horror fans will be able to get their grubby anxious fingers on Apex Magazine yet again.
For those unfamiliar with Apex, it's a monthly magazine that began in 2005 and covers all things nerdy and scary (two of my favorite things). Apex has reviews, fiction, and interviews and I'm sure it's tangible revival will make many people happy, myself included.
If you're interested in checking this out head on over to the Apex Bookstore and grab yourself a copy. I promise you won't regret it.
Wanna Play Some Left 4 Dead 2 Catch Up?
Creative theft is so 24 hours ago, instead lets focus on the good, and when it comes to Valve there's plenty of that. If you're not like me and you don't constantly troll through various gaming blogs you might not know everything you need to know about the upcoming Left 4 Dead 2. So here are some recent unveilings...
Two New Special Infected (and at least one more on the way):
The Charger: A crazy hillbilly with a gimp arm! It's howl is the last thing you'll hear before it rams you from behind followed by several quick up down movements that'll turn you into a little smudge on the floor (Unless your team saves you, of course).

The Spitter: This is one fugly potbellied little girl. Similar to the beloved Boomer, she vomits all over unsuspecting survivors, but instead of a thick layer of bile, now it's acid that damages survivors over time.
Whether or not these infected were taken from Valve's forums, you can't deny how awesome these two new Special Infected are.
Two Campaigns Announced (both are completely different):
The Parish was shown at E3, where we have to fight the infected during the day, 28 Days Later style. At Comic Con the focus is on a totally different scenario, called Swamp Fever. It's dark, wet, and very creepy.
Three New Common Infected:
We've seen the flame retardant zombies that no amount of well-thrown molotov cocktails can stop, and now we have zombies wearing Kevlar vests (focus on the head people!), and the dreaded Mud Men that stay low and obscure your vision with mud.
More Item Variety:
Besides all of the above, Valve is also adding a lot more variety to the items in the game by giving us more weapons (grenade launcher, AK 47), weapon upgrades (incendiary ammo), ammo packs, and adrenaline shots.
All this is added to L4D2's five campaigns, complete with Survivor and Versus modes for each one. Still think Left 4 Dead 2 is a glorified add-on?
Amazing BioShock 2 toys Show Up at Comic Con
These are some freaky toys, and I like freaky. You might even say I'm a bit of a freaky connoisseur. Let's get freaky together with some of these BioShock 2 toys...
