Now that December's rolled around every gaming publication and their mother is putting together their year-end retrospectives.  While we're working on ours behind the scenes, I thought it might be fun to let you, the reader, do some of the heavy lifting for us.  Over the next few days theBBPS will be asking your opinion on a number of year-end topics, and if we can find a way to make them fit we'll be including some of your comments in our own year-end extravaganza!

So let's kick things off with the question on everybody's minds; what was the best game of 2008?

I still play Smash Bros Brawl... every single day, so that's gotta say something.

I really enjoyed Tomb Raider: Underworld, graphically speaking. (for the pc.) - sure, it had some issues, but totally pretty game.

Fall out 3 hands down for me though.
maybe.
fuck.
can't decide.

Well, for me, their is 1 game I still keep going back to and that is Rock Band 2. Besides WoW that is. I really enjoyed Fable 2 though, until the ending that is.

This is a tough one. Rock Band 2 would likely be my choice, though I really enjoyed Gears 2 as well. As far as hours of play, WoW would top my list.

If it came down to value, Gears of War 2 wins hands down in my opinion. There isn't quite as complete a package out there.

If it came down to how involved I was in the game and how much pure fun I had, it would be Fable 2. And this is coming from a guy who did not enjoy the original at all. I was taken pleasantly by surprise and found myself totally enthralled throughout the entire adventure. Simply awesome.

Pixel Junk Monsters...I happily spent hours on that thing, only to start over once the trophies (and difficulty patch) arrived. Best PSN game, although others would say Wipeout HD I suppose. Too bad Eden wasn't any good.

NHL 09...my favourite game, but I'm a hockey nut. That said, it's a leap forward for those who give it a chance.

Anyone who votes GTA IV (for PS3) needs to go back and look at the long load times, no checkpoints, and choppy frame rate. The ultimate example of a rushed 360 port. It was cool when there were no other games out, but was quickly brushed aside when the time came.

But seriously, game of the year is Burnout Paradise! Easily the best example of how to do DLC (free and paid), and they have loads of stuff planned for 2009! Why rush a lesser title out every year, when you can just push quality, game-changing updates at your own pace? They also redefined how online play is supposed to just work. Full marks, Burnout Team Rocks, woohoo!

My vote has to go to Dragon Quest IV DS. That remake is absolutely amazing, and even as I'm getting close to wrap-up chapter 6 (the last one), I feel like replaying it already.

If I have to go with a second place, I'll say Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I'm not playing it as much as I should, but I always have fun when I do.

I think GTA probably just beats out Fallout 3, at the min, although i haven't finished fallout yet so it's hard to say for definate, but so far the story was just not as compelling in fallout, and i don't find myself caring as much about the NPCs.

Those two are the only games that have completely consumed and monopolised my time this year. From the moment i got them i've got home every day from work and played them for weeks, and i think it really takes a special sort of game to keep that sort of level of 'must play' for that length of time.

Grand Theft Auto IV was the best game I played in 2008.

Although, I haven't had time to check out Gears of War 2 or Left 4 Dead yet. I understand why they release these games late in the year for X-mas, but it doesn't give you as much time to play them in the year they were released, unlike a game released in April - June.
