Time-Capsule Thursday: How to beat video games vol. 1

Sadly, I remember these videos when I was a kid. After the Atari 2600 really dug into American homes an entire industry popped up to make money off the new found pastime.

Here we have a few clips from the horribly aged "How to Beat Video Games Vol. 1". Production values are obviously low, and the tips they give an really be summed up in about 15 seconds. But to make parents feel like they got their money's worth they stretch it into a few minute long segment. Of course no amount of time spent could convince people that hadn't just been ripped off. These days they're good for a laugh, and that's money well spent, especially when it's free.

First up is the classic Space Invaders. This one actually has a decent tip for in it. In a normal game, you can only fire one shot at a time, but hitting the switches on the console itself you were able to glitch the system allowing a coveted double shot. Analog cheat codes FTW!!!! You kids today with you up, down, right, X, X, Y, A whatever... Back in my day we did it with switches and levers! Now get off my lawn!

Wanna see another?

Next up is Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. The younger ones probably can't appreciate how much that damn blog looked like a snowspeeder when I was a kid. This is still a fun game (shit video aside) and the digitalized star wars theme is near classic.
