Time Capsule Thursday: The Original Gamer Achievements

With the release of the Xbox 360, we're all getting quite used to unlocking achievements and having those achievements available to us as bragging right about our gaming superiority. Well, back in the 80's Activision had a similar system to show off gaming achievements, though they were admittedly more... analog.

Back in the days of the 2600 each Activision game released had a single achievement like satisfying a time limit or getting a high score. If you were successful, you took a picture of the TV, sent it in, and in return got a letter of congratulations (suitable for framing) and a sweet sew-on patch (suitable for denim jacket attachment).

I had a few of these back in the day (If I remember correctly about 5). They were hard as hell to earn I can tell you that much. Sadly I lost them somewhere in my young life, before I started collecting video game memorabilia.

I'm actually half tempted to beat the games again, send in a picture to Activision, and see what they'd do.
