Today we celebrate our 1-year Anniversary!

To commerate the 1 year anniv of thebbps.com we're running a version of our original banner, soak in the goodness!

Yeah Word Cotton!

It was exactly one year ago today that I launched this site, or course at that point no one but me was reading it but it was out there for the world to see nonetheless. 365 days later we've posted 1,264 stories and have been visited by well over a million people. Jeebus.

The idea for the site grew out of a conversation I had during last year's E3. I was waiting in line to play Zelda and was talking to a guy next to me who was there as press for his website. He told me he get got about about 200 hits a day, at which time I thought "Fuck, I oughta start a site! How hard can it be to get 200 hits a day?"

So I got back home, shangai'd Kevin into jumping on board and we were off and running. Picking a name was a bitch, with every name using bits, bytes, pixels and sprites taken. So as a goof I registered a name using all of them. Well we got front paged on digg, found a little bit of an audience and decided to keep it.

Since then we've added forums and a podcast, not to mention a few writers! I've made some new friends and learned a lot about what it takes to run a site when you're working full-time elsewhere. It's taken more time than I figured but I love it and we're here to stay. We're got big plans... Here's to the coming year!

az00960.jpgThank you! These come in no order:

  • Kevin Alexander
  • Jim Squires
  • Nick Greshkov
  • Heidi Bahnck
  • Andrew Haywayd
  • Danny Migliorisi
  • Rich Coonelly
  • Brian Pendleton
  • and all the rest of my current and past contributors.

To the fellow bloggers that have had a hand in helping me out:

Finally, and most importantly, ____________ (Your Name Here)

I glad you found your way to our site. I appreciate every single hit we get and every email I receive from readers, and I'm busting my ass trying to make sure you find something good when you get here. There's a million and a half game sites out there, and I'm very happy you picked ours as one to read. Hopefully you'll come back.

You're welcome. smilies/smiley.gif

Seriously though, I've been glad to be a part of this from the moment you invited me in. I'd like to tell our readers a little story if I might. Last November in the days leading up to the PS3 launch, I blogged about buying some hot chocolate for PS3 line dwellers and quickly became the story of the day on Kotaku. I then posted about this surprising turn of events as you can see here;

http://jimmycanuck.wordpress.com/2006/11/16/jesus-tapdancing-christ-im-on-kotaku/

In that post, I said: "Now if I can only get a mention from 4cr, bbps and from the lord Jesus Christ himself Chris Kohler, you can put me on a raft and sail me down the river."

8 days later, I was writing here. Needless to say, working with Dan and Kevin really has made my year. I couldn't have been happier to have been asked aboard. Thanks for making it a great six months, and congratualtions on your anniversary!

Wait - six months.. November 22nd. Tommorow's my half-a-year-iversary!!

I'll be expecting cake.

Dan, you had me at "Hello," where "Hello" in this case means the Wizard DVD drawing you guys had to bring in more readers. Of course, it was my friend that wound up winning a copy... >smilies/sad.gif but hey, I got an awesome site to visit out of it, right?

Also, I wound up with Dotstream, which is like a billion times better. smilies/cheesy.gif

Happy Birthday, BBPS!

Congrats! The site is awesome. The additions of the forums and bitcast have added a greater experience to an already fantastic domain. There's always new content, more than boring corporate sites. Keep up the good work guys.

Congrats, guys. As someone who has started a blog, blew up, re-started, blew up again, re-re-started and blew up a final time, I know how much time, effort and creativity is needed to grow and sustain a readership. Kudos to all the contributantes here.

it's weird that it's been a year already. i still think it's funny that you started this site so we could go to e3 as press and then they shit-canned the whole thing a few months later. now you're just stuck with this beast.

I may be the newest addition to the crew, but I've enjoyed my weeks here at BBPS and look forward to contributing for some time. Congratulations on the landmark. To have opened just a year ago and already have some presence in the field (especially in this cluttered blogosphere) is a definite accomplishment.

In my best Frosty the Snowman impression, I'd like to say, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I've always enjoyed reading the site ever since the first time I layed eyes on the duck hunt banner that once rested atop the homepage.

It's been great writing for the site, and being a part of the team. In addition to the praises Dan has already sung for our readers, I too would like to thank all you guys for returning here day in and day. It gives us a purpose for writing.

A great site is great because of its writers, its readers, and its site features. i've read 1000s of gaming blogs in the last year, and i still always come back to BBPS. back in the day when you URL was fucking insane and it took 50 tries for me to spell it right each day, i still made daily visits. it's just too damn fun here not to be a part of it.

Thanks for giving us plenty of entertainment and information every day. Congrats on a great year and I can't wait to see what the next year brings!
