Trying to get my reserved copy of LittleBigPlanet from Gamestop becomes a Sisyphean feat

I'll admit right off the top that this is all partially my fault for even going to Gamestop to reserve LittleBigPlanet in the first place. What can I say, I wanted the God of War costumes and figured if I reserved a game there I wouldn't have to deal with a ton of nonsense just to get my game. Boy was I wrong.

So by now we all know about the LittleBigPlanet worldwide recall, and while that was a shitty situation it was hardly Gamestop's fault... so that's not the problem here. On Friday night I get a call from the 'stop telling me my game was going to be available for pickup on Saturday! Woot! Actually, double-woot!

So Saturday afternoon I head over, receipt in hand, and I'm promptly shot down saying that some stores got their copies but this wasn't one of them. They would, however, have it on Monday. Not the end of the world I thought, I'll lose the weekend but will be playing soon enough. Monday rolls around, and on my way home from work I stop in. Sorry, some stores got their copies but this wasn't one of them. They would, however, have it on Tuesday. Tuesday, and this time I save myself a trip and I call first. The guy at the store tells me some stores got their copies but this wasn't one of them. They would, however, have it on Wednesday. Hmm, I think I see a pattern developing.

So today, Wednesday, I call again. Want to guess what they told me? Some stores got their copies but this wasn't one of them. They would, however, have it on Thursday.

Fuck you Gamestop, I'm just going to Best Buy like I should have two days ago. Like I said at the head it''s partially my own fault for even going to the store, and that part of this equation I can fix. I'll never go to Gamestop again. Peace, bitches. end rant

Indeed. How dare you hold companies to standards. Grow up.

Don't ever pre-order shit for big releases. I have been much happier since I stopped doing that years ago.

Any huge game coming out has lots of copies floating around, every time. I have always been able to buy stuff day 1 (or at least day 1 in Canada) without preordering.

It just ties you down to store X (as you now realize), and they collect interest on your deposit while "guaranteeing" squat.

The only reason I did it here was the Gamestop exclusive God of War costumes. Stupid, I know. But they're awesome looking smilies/smiley.gif

Yeah but I figure that stuff will be DLC later on anyways.

Hey, guy who wrote blog post:
The money you pay for a pre-order is actually store credit. I preordered 3 copies of a game for some friends of mine, but they didn't want them so I just applied all 3 pre-orders to the single purchase. In short, next time you buy something you should be able to get your money back... or maybe you can just go ask for it, since you seem content not to shop there.

Hey guys, I work at a Gamestop and I thought I'd just fill you in on what happened. The game, as you know got recalled, so we had to ship them back to Sony. On Sunday morning we got in only handful of copies - nowhere near enough to fulfill our preorders, so we had to sell them on a first-come first-served basis (as long as it was a preorder customer of course). While Gamestop does have some shady business practices, etc, etc, this wasn't one of them. It was Sony who told us we'd have copies in on Sunday, only to send us a handful.

By the way, if you ever change your mind about a preorder you made, you can go to the store you preordered it at and get your cash back. If a game is released and you never pick it up, you can still get your cash back - the log is kept indefinitely. For some handy tips on how to get some extra cash back, check my article in the next issue of 2600 Quarterly.

PS - Yes Gamestop is a rip off, but we employees are just doing our jobs. Talk to the District Managers or Corporate if feel inclined. We just don't want to get fired.
