[A while ago we had started what we intended to be a weekly feature here, Non-Gaming Post Sundays. The idea was that we'd find something that tickled us during the week and share it with all of our readers on Sundays, a day when there's not much going on in the gaming world. Now it's back and under the moniker you see above. Enjoy!]

Welcome to the first installment of Bob Vance Of Vance Refrigeration Presents... Most of the time this will be a pretty light-hearted column where I share the wilds and wonderment of the internets. Unfortunately my plans got sidetracked this week when the entertainment world lost a couple of notable people. Actor Peter Boyle and Atlantic Records Co-Founder Ahmet Ertegün. Boyle was known for many surly and threatening roles but most notably for playing Frank on "Everybody Loves Raymond" and The Monster in Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein. He was 71.

Besides founding Atlantic Records with his brother, Ahmet Ertegün also helped to kickstart the careers of Led Zeppelin and Ray Charles (he even wrote the hit "Mess Around" for Charles). Ahmet passed away after he slipped into a coma resulting from falling down a flight of stairs at a Rolling Stones concert in New York. He was 83.

I'll avoid getting too sappy here and leave you with this classic scene from Young Frankenstein:

I never realized that the same guy was The Monster in Young Frankenstein and Frank on Raymond. But watching this clip I can recognize him now that I know who I'm looking at, funny how that works.

Peter Boyle also guest starred in one of my favorite episodes of The X-Files, "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose," in which he played a life insurance salesman who could forsee how people are going to die. It was one of the "funny" episodes of the series, and won Peter Boyle an Emmy.

Falling down the stairs at a Stones concert and slipping into a coma. Now THAT'S the ultimate rock'n'roll death.

Andarko - That was a good episode! My favorite one is still the Bermuda Triangle ep.

jimmy - It's some form of irony that Ahmet actually did almost exactly the same thing (sans coma and death) way back in the day when he was at a Stones concert. That Turk started out as a jazz freak but was way more Rock N Roll than I could every hope to be.

Peter Boyle was a comic genius. Thanks for posting this scene. It really shows the tenderness between Boyle and Wilder in this fine movie. For those of you who haven't seen Young Frankenstein, it's Mel Brook's masterpiece with side-splitting performances all around. Boyle is also brilliant in the fire scene with Gene Hackman, where Hackman plays the blind man who offers the monster a cigar to smoke. Boyle was a brilliant comic actor and his presence will be missed.
