Virtual Reality soothes young burn victims

So often video game news in the mainstream media has to do with the so-called negative effects of gaming on kids, so it's refreshing when a story like this comes along.

Apparently, a psychologist and a pair of virtual reality designers have developed SnowWorld, a virtual reality game that helps burn victims too young for adult pain medications manage their pain. SnowWorld basically distracts the young burn victim with tasks set in a cold, snowy environment, effectively blocking out painful rehabilitation and healing.

Though the idea that a video game can be mesmerizing is not new to gamers, that the phenomenon of total absorption in a game can be put to such good use is very noble.
