If you can't get the page to load correctly, or navigation is all screwy.... we're currently on the front page of digg anc cannot handle the traffic load. I apologize for the downtime guys, but a premium account is 'tre expensive and if you haven't noticed I'm not running any ads, so for now it's gotta be on the cheap... Although if this keeps up I'll have to upgrade

Careful what you wish for I guess...

Heh yeah, definitely! We recently survived a small digg (it's basically the equivalent of a denial of service attack). Here's what we did to stay up:

Change your permalink, then put a metarefresh to a static HTML file. Your server is still going to choke from the connections per second, but your database will be off the hook.

Install a cache plugin for your site. There's a few rather good ones for wordpress, and just flip it on in times of trouble. Otherwise its annoying smilies/smiley.gif

Get a dedicated server. It's expensive, but you run into max connection problems for a long time.
I recommend the folks at EV1, they're good people
