What'cha Been Playing, Watching, Reading, Whatever...

So this week's been a little light on games for me, though I did complete the "Prologue" portion of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition. Hopefully I'll get through some more of that and give you all my impressions of that PC RPG. Mostly though I've been splitting my time getting caught up on season 6 of The Shield (which I finished yesterday) and reading Preacher for the first time. Between the two of them it's almost too much awesome for one guy to handle, lucky for me I have that capacity.

Once I watch the five episodes of The Shield that have already aired this year I'll be all caught up in the intriguing tail of Detective Mackie, one of the most interesting characters I've ever spent time with. The show constantly surprises me with what it puts these characters through.

As for Preacher, Christ Almighty that book is good. The first trade volume was pretty cool but this second one that I'm in the middle of now is really making clear why this series has such a great reputation. It's dark, funny and daring, three qualities that I can always get behind in graphic novels.

So, What'cha Been Playing?

Preacher just gets better and better, but as much as I thought Ennis would never do better, his work on The Punisher was fucking DEFINITIVE.

Playing?
Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise
Wipeout HD
LittleBigPlanet beta
Buzz: Quiz TV
Buzz: Master Edition

and I have a rental copy of Soul Calibur IV sitting on my shelf, gathering dust, waiting for a few free moments.

Watching?
Just finished season 2 of The Wire. Fucking BRILLIANT show.
You Don't Mess With the Zohan (back to silly Sandler, and it works)
...and I'm about to watch Chapter 27 and Tilt. Chapter 27 looks wicked. Can't wait. smilies/smiley.gif

Reading?
what am I? literate? smilies/tongue.gif

De blob has dragged my wii back into action, it's really compulsive and the soundtrack is just so damn funky! I just want to paint everything! It also encourages slap bass and pipe organs in games, which is a good thing.

Only thing i've played this week, mainly because there was so much football (soccer) on TV this week, although this weekend should be a good oportunity to get stuntman and a few others out of the way before the flood cometh.

Still Mega Man 9 (when I have a free moment). Man! That game almost perfectly replicates the experience of being 8, playing on the NES. Sunday... was just about to beat the game. Had one shot left on Wily... BOOM! I died. I had to put the controller down and walk away for a while. Then I came back Wednesday night and ROCKED HIS FUCKING TOWER TO THE GROUND!

I'll probably be trying for as many of its achie... erm, "challenges" as possible without going insane, but more to the point, it's a game I'll be playing again and again, challenges or no. What can I say? I loves me some Mega Man.

Same stuff as usual for the most part, though I'm pretty heavily into WipeoutHD and Lego Batman on the PS3. With the exception of Rock Band 2 my 360 has been gathering dust (just me getting used to not using it so I can cast it off when the new "experience" launches)

Not much, as I've been crazy busy. I took Assassin's Creed off the Pile o' Shame last weekend and played all the way through it- I really enjoyed the game. It's not without flaws, but I loved it.

I still need to pick up Lego Batman and Mega Man 9.

@JJ

Everything about Season 2 was fantastic. I hear Ziggy was on Generation Kill, so I think I'm going to have to give that a watch.

And how great is that scene early in the season with Omar testifying? "Do you see the shooter in the courtroom today?" "What up, Bird?"

After reading what you guys thought of Wipeout HD, I actually might pick it up, I played it a few weeks back in the Sony boot at Cedia here in Denver, and it was pretty fun. And I really enjoyed the one that launched on the PSP.

Other than that, more Rock Band 2, and possibly some other games that I haven't picked up yet, I need to get back into my gaming routine. I've been watching way to much Justice League right now.

Jim,
"Generation Kill" is a huge letdown compared to "The Wire".

Speaking of Omar's court scene from Season 2, it has one of the best quotes from the whole series, in response to the defense lawyer calling him a parasite who lives off the drug trade....."Just like you man, you carry a briefcase and I got a shotgun, but its all part of the game." The looks on the lawyer's and judge's faces are priceless.

@ Kevin Alexander

Only By the Night is the first Kings of Leon album I've ever listened to, and I'm pretty impressed. And apparently the critics seem to think this is their weakest album to date. Crazy.

@ Peachey

I've been listening to them since I randomly bought "Youth And Young Manhood" back when it came out in '03 and I love the way this band has evolved. Since "Only By Night" is your first time listening to them you should hit their catalogue backwards instead of jumping in at the beginning.

"Only By Night" is their strongest, most complete album yet.
