Why I don't like Xbox Live

As some of you may have noticed, DanZuke and Harpua Scorpio have had their Xbox Live Gamercards available to view since the formation of the site. Until recently, I had refused to get Live for two reasons. 1) There was nothing I was dying to play online. 2) I don't like the idea of having to download patches and what not because eventually, I will get fucked by it.

So When Gears Of War came out, I finally had an excuse to get Live. After a few days of playing Gears and checking out achievements of my friends, I decided to pop in Project Gotham 3. In case any of you haven't noticed, i dig driving games... so long as they're good. PG3 is pretty darn good, and the fact that Zuke had more things unlocked was eating me up inside. B was online for my initial run, so I downloaded the update (even though I hate that I have to if I want to play the game) and in minutes, we're racing. I had a blast, but the next day, I wanted to unlock more. I dove into my saved single player game, and bought every Ferrari and Lamborghini I could to unlock those achievements. Then it was on to race. First race, three seconds in, my screen goes crazy. How crazy you ask? Take a look at the provided picture.

WTFITS? Not only is that crap everywhere, and ever changing, but I can drive through it. I shut my system off promptly, and started it right back up. I got one race in and then the same thing happened. I deleted everything I could PG3 related off the hard drive. Same deal. I am pissed. I have to call MS tomorrow (it's sunday at 10:30p est) and see if they have a fix, but this is exactly the reason I didn't want live, and two days into having it I get bit in the ass by it. If any of you have had this happen, do feel free to chip in and offer up some knowledge. I'll update this post when/if I get an answer from Microsoft.

I forgot to bring my copy over the other day. While I don't think its your disc, MS might make you trouble shoot.

dammit that sucks. I'm really not liking how all these new consoles make you update.

And it's only going to get worse

The only update that screwed me over was the call of Duty 3 update..but it went away after rebooting my 360. Sorry your xbox live experience was ruined, but dont let it get to you. Xbox live truly is one of the best things to happen to console gaming.

it hasn't ruined me. i just don't like the idea of having to update anything. take itunes for example. i never downloaded 7.0 and i didn't lose any of the music in my library (*cough*zuke*cough*). i'm very happy with version 6.whatever. just like i was very happy with pg3 before they made me upgrade. but live itself is a good deal. i'm enjoying everything else about it. especially gears co-op.

yeah, i wasn't going to say anything, but the itunes example was the only one that came to mind. my bad homey. and i had that happen to me with an earlier version which is why i never updated again. but back on topic, i'm going to borrow B's PG3 this week and see if it isn't the game. then call MS and see how useless they are before i just up and lose it. one of my favourite 360 games... if i can't play it, some poor customer service guy/gal is getting a yelling.

Looks to me as the same thing that happens to my PC from time to time when playing some games. The GFX card seems to be unable to cope, and you just get huge artifacts all over the place, a good clean of the card often helps me, usualy heat related in my case I think.
It happened a lot to me in Sid Meirs Railroads, makes it unable to play the game due to huge grey and black blocks all over the show.

Ellisd, i really appreciate the comment. my question about heat would be that if i was running too hot, wouldn't this problem show up when i play other games?

It might do, I play a online game called Auto Assault, and I get major gfx issues in 1 area of 1 level, the rest of the game is perfectly fine (untill the dust buildup hits anyway).

So you're the other guy I occasionally see on Auto Assault! I haven't played in a couple of months, I've had it since launch and I've barely touched it, just can't seem to get into it.
