Waiting for the Wii in the cold outside all night strikes a familiar chord with me

17042044-0-m.jpgAfter a marathon session of Guitar Hero II, I decided to head out into the night to check out some of the campers waiting out overnight for the Wii. I wanted to pimp the site, hand out some cards, meet some gamers and talk games. Mostly I wanted to know who was keeping and who was selling. Most people I talked to were keeping it, and just about everyone was (obviously) picking up Zelda, with a smattering of "Red Steel" thrown in.

High School kids for the most part, full of the kind of energy it takes to pull off something like this.

It reminds me of the time a friend and I went over to Philly to camp all night for Howard Stern's autograph. In my slightly younger days when things like that seem like a good time. You guys don't know how well prepared you are, we went over with nothing. I had on Chuck Taylor's for fraks sake. And it snowed that night. A LOT. Unfortunatly that night ended with him in the hospital with hypothermia and me dizzy from breathing in the fumes from a news van and without a ride out of the city. When it was happening, I was never so miserable in my entire life. I never even ended up getting the damn autograph! (Damn numb limbs) But looking back on it now, I laugh my ass off just thinking about it.

So if you're waiting on line tonite, I guess what I'm saying is as miserable as you're going to be at 4am, try and have some fun out there. You all are hardcore and in for a long, cold night. But come morning it'll all be worth it. Have fun burning the midnight oil, make some friends, have a few laughs. Nights like these are the ones you'll talk about years later. Trust me.

Yo, you handed me a card outside Target in Vorhees last night. Just wanted to stop by and post about my experience.

The night was long and cold, with a sprinkling of meteor showers. Most of the conversations consisted of "What games are you buying?", "Anyone wanna play Mario Kart?" and "Damn it's cold!". Around the 4am mark I started dosing off, but since my friend pretty much collapsed on the ground with my blanket, I was too frozen to sleep.

The whole thing was very much worth it though, becase the moment you saw the pile of Wiis inside, nothing else mattered.

I know this is way late to post on, but I did the camp out thing. 6 of us had the tent, sleeping bags, pillows, board games, fast food, and laptop movies going on. It was a blast.
