Star Wars fans, your patience has been rewarded. According to a press release that came out mere minutes ago, an official lightsaber peripheral will be released for the Wii. Bensussen Deutsch & Associates, Inc. (you can use the acronym BDA if it makes you more comfortable) revealed its new Star Wars Light-Up Lightsabers for Wii today. Officially licensed by Lucasfilm, the lightsabers will be crafted replicas of the lightsabers used by Anakin and Yoda.

An on/off switch will allow the player to control the light-up feature of the lightsaber (blue light for Anakin and green light for Yoda), which is meant for attachment to Wiimotes (sorry--"Wii Remotes"). The Wii Remote will be housed in the lightsaber's handle.

“The lightsaber is the ultimate symbol of a Jedi Knight, and the POWER A Lightsaber will represent the only licensed lightsaber for Wii on the market,” said Eric Bensussen, president of BDA.  “Players can feel like they are truly part of the action in the game like never before.”

BDA will also be making a Clone Trooper Blaster peripheral for the Wiimote, which, wait for it, comes with stickers to put all over for simulated battle damage or tracking enemy kills. The Blaster will use both the Wiimote and the Nunchuk, enabling dual-trigger action (one on the Blaster, one on the Nunchuk).

“Inspired by the blasters used in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the Clone Trooper Blaster upholds the quality and creativity standards of both Nintendo and Lucasfilm,” said Eric Bensussen, president of BDA.  “As the only licensed Star Wars blaster on the market, players will genuinely feel like they are part of the battle for peace in a galaxy far, far away.”

The lightsaber and the blaster will both be available this Fall. They are being created for the upcoming Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes game.

I don't want to sound like a nerd, but if you look at the back of the light saber peripheral you will notice that there is no way that the new Wii motion plus could be attached, making the light saber peripheral useless in games where you might actually want to use it (in a game with one-to-one motion). Oh wait, i do sound like a nerd.....
