Watching movies on a Wii?

Even though it may not feature DVD playback support one site is suggesting that you can indeed watch movies on your Wii. All you'll need to do is grab a video file in DivX, AVI, MPG or MOV format, pop it onto an SD card, and choose it from the Photo Viewer. Presto! You're watching video!

I haven't been able to try this myself as I don't have an SD card yet (somehow everything I own uses the Sony-branded MemoryStick.) But if you have an SD Card and a movie gathering dust on your hard drive, give this a try and let us know how it goes!

video playback only works with mjpeg (*.mov) videos.
but it just worked once with a video from direclty recorded on sd card with my camera.
apple trailers dont work. seems like the max. resolution is 480p and nothing more (no downscaling)

Yeah I think the poster just left out the second half of the referenced article which was that those file formats had to be converted using Wii video 9. (which has yet to work for me) Quicktime can do it too. Open the file in quicktime and export it in JPG B with PCM as the audio type. Thats the only combination i've found that worked.

Here's the article I wrote on it:
