Yup, that about sums it up... Jim's the only one at the site that played SSBB so i'll leave it to him to agree or disagree

To be fair, though, Yahtzee doesn't like multiplayer, period. He mentioned that in his Halo 3 review. He mentioned that in his Call of Duty 4 review. I doubt even Smash would change his mind.

The whole bit about becoming "that guy" is spot on! And yeah, having to play forever to unlock the characters is terrible. I think one of the big problems with fighting games in general is that you have three types of players:

1. The player who has never or very rarely plays. This player mashes buttons; sometimes this works in his or her favor.

2. The player to plays occasionally. This player knows some of the details of the game, such as special attacks or combos. He or she can usually can do OK with one or two characters, and resorts to button-mashing on the rest. This player will also often resort to over-utilizing one or two attacks.

3. The hardcore player. This player knows all the moves, has mastered the combos, and has perfect timing. He or she can beat you with any character.

The root of this issue is that each of the types can usually dominate one of the lower types, so any time you mix them together, it's not fun for the lower types. For the record, I generally fall into type #2.

Heh. Even half a year ago I'd be joining the legions of fantards in calling for his blood. But I doubt he's far off the mark.

I liked this review. It was funny and genuinely spot-on on a lot of points.

However, when I do eventually buy SSBB, I know I'll love it, but then again, I loved all the other iterations up to this point, so I know I'm not really in for a surprise here.

Yeah, funny, I gotta listen to it a couple more times. I almost wish Yahtzee would release his transcripts for these. They are really funny.

I generally agree, it's a great game, but there's always 1 or sometimes 2 people who make it hard for us tier 2 players. smilies/smiley.gif
