Here's a good example of how reviews can influence people. Before I watched Yahtzee's take on Saints Row 2, I wasn't really interested in playing it. Now? Oh yea, I'll be getting this game at some point soon(ish).

I've been yelling and screaming about my love for the first Saint's Row. I still prefer to play that over GTA IV. Why?

Saint's Row is actually fun.

If GTA series is the "Godfather" of games San Andreas being the exception because that's really "Boyz 'n' the Hood". Then Saints Row is the "Don't be a Menace while drinking you juice in the Hood" of games.

I would say GTA really wants to be The Godfather but actually winds up being the Pacino Scarface, a movie that is wildly overrated.

Kev,
We get it. You don't like GTA.

But please point me in the direction of another franchise that set the bar in 1.open-ended non-linear storytelling, 2. Actually good Celebrity Voice Acting and 3. The Gamer as the Anti-Christ.

I'm sorry to hear that your GTA IV experience wasn't what you had hoped for and I'm even more sorry to hear that you think "Scarface" is an overrated movie. But actually maybe that helps to explain some things. Much like how when "Scarface" was released in 1983 it stood out from any other action/thriller of the time and went onto inspired a TV Show the following year named "Miami Vice" that would forever change crime dramas on television. The same could be said about how GTA III in 2001 changed the video game industry.

Now you may find "Saint's Row" more fun than any GTA title and I'm glad to hear that. I myself think GTA IV might be a little too serious for its own good and I kind of miss the senseless rampages that were so prevelant in GTA: Vice City. But to help explain this with another pop culture reference there is KISS and then there's Mini-KISS. And while seeing little people dressed up in make-up playing music is interesting, they don't quite compare to the real deal.
