Ugh, that is a brick wall. I'd probably try to delete the gamertag off your machine and then re-download it. If not, it's sad to say but you're best bet would be to call customer support.

i have a serious problem. basically the other day i was at a friends house and i recovered my gamertag there with out any porblems. i get home and try to sign on and it says that i must recover it back here to play. so i fill in all the neccasary things like tag, email and i click accept terms&policy. it completes the first stage of "recovering xbox live account" in no time but then i get to "recovering game profile" and i hit a wall. it only gets about 1/4 threw the completed bar before a window pops up and says xbox live sign up is currently unavliable please try again later. and everytime i try to recover it, the same thing happens. if i try and just sign in from the dashboard without attempting to recover it says your profile was not completely recovered and cannot sign in. its been like this for a week now and i dont know what to do about it. ive gone on xbox.com/support which is now help so please someone help me

Hey, it's true about the save game file snafu. I gave my old RROD prone (still hasn't bricked yet) 360 to my GF, and picked up the H3 edition one. In the back and forthing I managed to goof up and delete my profile. Whoops! Guess what.. that means that all the save games are then renamed to "unknown" and there's no way to reattach them. Yippy skippy.

I can't imagine going back to using account recovery. I use a memory card and keep all my in-progress games as well as my account on there. That way everything is with me wherever I go. My only complaint is that the little gray plastic bit on the memory card seems to be asking to be snapped off. I got my card used so I don't have the clear case.

@anon:

No, you have to transfer each save individually to the card.

I hear you on this. My profile is 12MB and it takes like 25 min to download. Never understood why. But I did the same as you about a year ago, just gave in and bought a memory card. Maybe that's why it takes so long? To get you to buy a memory card?

I've always found this to be a hassle. Now that I know the solution is a few clicks and $20 away, I just might get a memory unit.
