Heavy Rain shots: I said wow |

Matt Leone of 1UP has posted an interview with David Cage, the writer-director of the forthcoming PS3 adventure/thriller game from Quantic Dream, called Heavy Rain. Definitely worth a read, particularly if you were a fan of Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit.
The story included these two new screenshots of what was already a really impressive-looking title, and I admit when I saw the first shot I wondered why we were looking at a picture of a Quantic Dream office. Took me a few seconds – that is some kickass radiosity lighting.

Those are pretty and all but Indigo Prophecy was a game entirely built around a story and that story was absolute horseshit. Heavy Rain can be as pretty as it wants but they need to remember that graphics don’t make a game.
That said…wow.

I was really impressed by that demo I saw ages ago with the actress freaking out in the kitchen. Neat concept, incredible execution and visuals.
I have to wonder, however, at what snail’s pace this game will have to run in order to keep things acceptably smooth. Then again, maybe they’ve finally unlocked all that power the PS3 allegedly has hidden and tucked away in some dark corner of its circuitry.

I’m going to have to respectfully disagree with you Kev – I thought the first half (maybe even 2/3rds) I thought were very engrossing… although it went totally crazy by the end, and not in a good way.
At any rate, I am encouraged by Cage’s comments on acknowledging what he did wrong in IP and trying to build on the successes. We don’t get many adventure games these days and I welcome an attempt to do something grounded in reality (I think Silence of the Lambs when I see some of this stuff from the demo).

I say fuck y’allz. Even if it got hokey at the end, I really dug all of Indigo Prophecy. Had no idea the same guy was behind Heavy Rain. Now I’m doubly excited!

I think it’s an Xbox Originals download. You should absolutely check it out.

The thing that killed me about IP is that it had a really interesting gameplay mechanic and presentation. The demo intrigued me to no end as I played it a couple of dozen times and told everyone I knew about it. The final game hit and the story, which is basically the whole game, was absolutely terrible right from the start. Nothing made sense, and not in that “Oh let me see what’s going on” Silent Hill way. The characters were all over the place and I had no desire to see what happened so what was the point in playing through?

This game is going to be a heavy hitter, everyone will have it when it releases.
