Video Arcades’ Last Gasp

by the hammer of Kevin Alexander!

Dance Dance Bitches! We’ve cover this before on a very personal level but the Chicago Tribune has a really interesting article up about how video arcades have transformed from the dark, dingy halls of yesteryear to the family-friendly niche atmosphere of today.

A local mall in my area has been undergoing a huge facelift as a last attempt to make it a viable commercial venture and there’s one of those family-friendly arcade-ish places going in that’s opening up soon. I shudder to think what it might be like in there but here’s hoping they’ll have a BurgerTime machine stuffed in a corner somewhere.

It takes a little bit to get there, but the last of this 3 match set is quite enjoyable. The crowd certainly loves it!

King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters now on DVD

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

Just a friendly reminder that King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters — the documentary chronicling Steve Wiebe’s attempt to unseat Billy Mitchell as the world Donkey Kong champ — will be released on DVD today. I had a chance to check this out last week, and it’s easily one of my top ten flicks of 2007.

Even though it’s a documentary, the whole thing unfolds like some amazingly plotted underdog story. Plus, Billy Mitchell is a bigger villain than Adolf Hitler and Captain Hook combined. This thing is currently sitting at 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

You can pick up King of Kong on amazon.com for only $19.99. Do it! Do it now!

Street Fighter (Re-Run) figures at PlayAsia!

Boasting over 33 points of articulation and special move accessories, these figures may be the best Street Fighter ones I’ve ever seen. They’re a standard 7 inches tall and are so poseable that you can have them kicking the ass of any of your other toys. So far we only have Ryu, Ken and Akuma (not that they’re bad) but I’m obviously hoping to see Chun-Li and maybe even Cammy.

They’re hitting soon and will run about 20 bucks a piece, at least thats what PlayAsia is charging. I’m thinking I’ll probably buckle and get the Ryu.

Street Fighter: The Later Years - Episode 6

Another episode of the gloriously fantastic (and now to large to embed) CollegeHumor.com series is back with another episode, and this one is one of the best ones yet.

It has more than one line that made me actually LOL and features a topless Chun-Li riding Blanka (normally that kind of deal would be a bad thing but I think you can see some Chun-Li side-bewb). In addition I just love what a jerk Ryu is.

All that aside this one ends with a bit of a shocker, it’s actually quite surprising how involved this series is becoming.

Head on over to CollegeHumor to check it out.

Cal Marching Band’s Halftime Show

by the hammer of Kevin Alexander!

As a former band geek myself, this is like porn to me.

Unfortunately this video is shot from the opposite side of the field from which you’re supposed to see it, but the Washington State vs. Cal fans on November 3rd got quite the show.
