Kirby Pillow Cover

by the hammer of Dan Zuccarelli!

The Etsy crowd sure is turning up the heat on the video game craft front. We’ve seen some pillows and quilts before, but for me personally I’ve never seen this level of quality and dare I say…. class. The use of a print to represent the pixels and not just a solid color definitely adds to the overall look of it.

If I were to ever buy one of these pillows, it’d be one like this. From the description:

I machine-quilted the top. Its 16 inches by 16 inches. It’s made up of 256 pieces with each piece representing a pixel, being 1 inch by inch each.

If you’re interested, there’s also a Bubble Bobble and Zelda one available.

Saw this on reddit last night, no source/artist/website attached. Gave me a good little chuckle.

The I Am 8 Bit BBPS Art Show

by the hammer of Kevin Alexander!

Well, it’s not much of a show but it’s what we have. In addition to QTipBert, the piece I made up on Friday, Jimmy threw together a little something he’s calling “Tried To Make Me Go To Rehab”:

And Grim came up with “PacArt”:

Break Out Your Photoshop Skills…Or Lack There Of

I remember being at the I Am 8 Bit show back in aught 5 when Dan and I hit up E3 for the first time. It was in a tiny little gallery and there were about 10 people there. Seeing the pictures below brought up an idea, since mostly none of us here (either writers or readers) will be able to go we should have our own show. First though, we have to set some rules:

  • 1. The image must be no bigger than 600 x 600 pixels
  • 2. The image must be in the spirit of the I Am 8 Bit art show
  • 3. You have 2 minutes to complete your image

Of course, we’re going by the honor system on that third one. When you’re done email your submission to thebbps at gmail dot com and we’ll post em’ up on Monday.

To take the edge off things and to show that this will be for fun here’s my little thing I created, QTipBert:

Sadly I couldn’t make it out to LA for this year’s I am 8-bit art show this year, which is a real shame. I’ve loved the 2 I’ve been able to attend, even though it was beyond crowded and in a tiny gallery. Well this year has seen an upgrade in the size of the gallery, but from what I hear was still packed! People just seem to love their video game inspired art!

My friend Rachel was in attendance for the opening last night and did me a huge solid and took a bunch of photos, so we can all live vicariously through her! Looks like it was fun, and just like every other year there’s kick ass art all over the place.

Many many pics after the break!

[Thanks Rachel for the pics!]

Sorry folks, it’s no Etsy find. This one was made for a housewarming present, so we’ll all just have to admire the care and detail in it from afar. Drats.

by the hammer of Dan Zuccarelli!

Hitting up the 1st two editions of the I am 8-bit art shows where some of the true highlights of those years at E3. Hell the 2nd year I even bought one of the art pieces! So it’s both exciting and saddening to see the new show coming soon and me knowing I’m not going to make it out there. Boo for me, yay for anyone anywhere near the gallery. Seriously, go!

Actually, if you’re going and want to cover it for the site… hit me up! We’ll try and work something out (wink wink).
