Review: Buzz! Master Quiz (PSP)

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

One of my biggest gripes when reviewing the sublime Buzz! Quiz TV for the PS3 was it’s utter refusal to cater to the single player crowd.  Sure you could always hop online and make a friend, but if really wanted to fly solo you were stuck with a quick round of questions without any of the bells and whistles the series has become known for.  Clearly, Quiz TV was intended to be a party game experience.

But what about Master Quiz?  Surely taking the Buzz experience on the road would force the series to take a step in the single player direction, wouldn’t it?

Review: Buzz! Quiz TV (PS3)

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

I’m a bit of a trivia nerd at heart. Anyone who’s listened to our recent Jeopardy bitcast and giveaway should know that. After all, a man doesn’t write 60 gaming question and fake a Trebek voice for an hour because he’s a fan of the Wheel, you know. That’s why it should come as no surprise that one of my most eagerly anticipated releases this fall was Sony’s first PS3 foray for the Buzz! franchise.

We should probably preface this review by making it clear that this is my first experience with Buzz. I have yet to dabble with any of the PS2 releases that appeared stateside last year (though our own Kevin has had some experience with them) , so my own excitement was based purely on what I’d seen of it, the promise of MyBuzz, and the good words spoken by others in the past. So did Buzz Quiz TV tickle my trivia bone? Continue Reading »

My Buzz! Quiz Creator now online

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

I may not have talked much about it thus far, but Buzz: Quiz TV for the PlayStation 3 is easily in my top five most anticipated games this fall.  Not only am I a bit of a trivia junkie, but Buzz will be delivering something that I’ve been demanding for years — the ability to make and share your own quizzes.

Creating a new quiz couldn’t be easier.  Just visit mybuzzquiz.com, sign in with your PSN ID, and get creating!  The quizzes you create can be taken both on the My Buzz site and in the game, and are accessible to everyone.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again — Sony knows exactly what Velocity Girl is looking for.

Pop Quiz Hot Shot: Buzz! The Hollywood Quiz Impressions

Games are all about fun. Well, fun and proving how much better you are at them to your friends. It’s even better when you prove that by showing off your Useless Knowledge Memory Bank Retrieval System®. Way back in November I gave you my impressions of Buzz! The Mega Quiz, I was quite a big fan of it though I never got a chance to play it that often. Recently I relieved myself of that situation and my wife and I can go back to having people over to get drunk and play games. Around the same time we received a copy of the new iteration of Relentless Software’s trivia-happy series Buzz! The Hollywood Quiz. Hit the jump for some overview and thoughts. Continue Reading »

First Impressions: Buzz! The Mega Quiz

by the hammer of Kevin Alexander!

Around my house party games are pretty big. We love a good, beer-soaked night of Karaoke Revolution topped off with a few rounds of Catch Phrase or Cranium. When I found out about Buzz! The Mega Quiz for the PS2 I was cautiously optimistic, hoping for another game to add to our rotation. Really, games are never more fun than when you’re playing with a bunch of friends. Concurrently, victory is never more sweet than when you’ve proven how much smarter you are than them also…even if it is with meaningless pop culture bits interspersed with “real” questions.

Over the past few nights I was able to play through (and win!) a couple of rounds so after the jump I’ll give you the lowdown on what I thought. Continue Reading »
