New Threadless “8-bit Investigation” tee based on the old Sierra games

by the hammer of Dan Zuccarelli!

Threadless consistentially offers some of the best t-shirts on the web. Very rarely, however, are they gaming related. But they’ve got a new one in, and it harkens back to he old Leisure Suit Larry era of lo-fi bits. It’s a huge print and it’s awesome.

Here’s what the designer had to say:

This design is a tribute to the awesome Sierra games of the late 80s and early 90s that I grew up on.

Traveller’s Tales: The LEGO team

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

Not to be outdone by Batman, Indy or even *cringe* Anakin Skywalker, the team at Traveller’s Tales (the development house behind the recent wave of licensed LEGO adventures) decided it was time to reinvent themselves in the world of LEGO too.

Clockwise from top left, we have James Cunliffe - Head of Art, Jeremy Pardon - Head of Animation, Jonathan Smith - VP of Publishing and John Hodkinson - Lead Programmer.

Does anybody else think this could be the next Mii craze?

New Releases

Ummmm….. well…. if you just couldn’t bring yourself to buy the Orange Box now’s you chance to pick it up piecemeal for more than just buying them bundled. Unless you want to buy another shovelware game for the Wii.

Can anyone tell me what the deal is with that Baroque game? Looks kinda cool.

Stephen King on video game violence: “There’s a lot more to America’s culture of violence than Resident Evil 4.”

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

In addition to writing books more often than I change undies, Stephen King maintains a weekly column with Entertainment Weekly. This past week he touched on the topic of video game violence, and as we’ve all come to expect from King he does it in a way that’s both poignant and folksy. That’s what I like about King — he always makes some damn good points while keeping his writing style totally accessible to everyone. Here’s an excerpt;

What really makes me insane is how eager politicians are to use the pop culture — not just videogames but TV, movies, even Harry Potter — as a whipping boy. …it allows legislators to ignore the elephants in the living room. Elephant One is the ever-deepening divide between the haves and have-nots in this country, a situation guys like Fiddy and Snoop have been indirectly rapping about for years. Elephant Two is America’s almost pathological love of guns. It was too easy for critics to claim — falsely, it turned out — that Cho Seung-Hui (the Virginia Tech killer) was a fan of Counter-Strike; I just wish to God that legislators were as eager to point out that this nutball had no problem obtaining a 9mm semiautomatic handgun.

Hop on over to the EW website to give the whole thing a read.

If Adam Sessler and Kevin Pereira had a baby and abandoned it in France…

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

…he’d grow up to be this guy;

Sure it doesn’t have anything to do with gaming, but you’ve got to admit that the likeness to a Perriera/Sessler hybrid is uncanny. It’s like the two of them got into the matter transporter from The Fly and came out in Avignon.

Me fail English? That’s unpossible!: A review of WordJong DS

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

wordjongbox.jpgIn a different world and a different time, where discount games weren’t all lumped under the banner of “shovelware” and disregarded as worthless, WordJong could easily have been one of the more popular titles on the Nintendo DS. Sadly though we don’t live in this mythical utopia, and the bargain-priced WordJong seems destined to remain one of those truly hidden gems on the system.

Is that a golf club in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

Those of you who listen to the bitcast may know that I recently dipped my wick in the little bit of Sony golf love known as Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds. Hot on the heels of their PS3 release, SCEA has announced Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2 for the PlayStation Portable. Considering the love Dan has spouted for the original PSP title on the ‘cast (now available for download for the low low price of $10.99) I think I may have to pick this one up.
