Handmade Rayman Raving Rabbid Plushie: Made Just For Me

by the hammer of Christina "Faith" Winterburn!

Anyone who’s known me for a long time knows that I’m a nut for the rabbits from Rayman Raving Rabbids and for the longest time I’ve been wanting my very own rabbid plushie. Well, finally I’m going to have one to call my own and best of all, I’m the first kid on the block to own one!

After putting out the call for my very own rabbit plushie on Etsy, Catsicle answered my prayers with this amazing piece of craftsmanship. She even created the cute french maid outfit and the little plunger for him at my request. It was love at first sight.

And not just for me apparently, because Catsicle is now added a rabbid plushie as a recurring item on her Etsy store, so that you too can own a cute rabbid bent on world domination for only $40 plus shipping. The store version is just a plain rabbid plushie, but I’m sure plungers can be added for extra.

Thanks to Catsicle for finally making me my rabbid. DAHHHHHH!

Review: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates

by the hammer of Christina "Faith" Winterburn!

ringoffates.jpg

Gamers, I have for you a great gem from the developers at Square Enix: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates for the Nintendo DS. The Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles series got its start on the Gamecube system back in 2004 as more of a Secret of Mana hack and slash RPG rather than the turn based RPG we’ve come to expect from most Final Fantasy games.

The latest installment, Ring of Fates is actual a prequel in the Crystal Chronicles storyline and focuses on twin brother and sister Yuri and Chelinka as they journey to defeat the evil that has plagued their land. You play with Yuri as your sword wielder and Chelinka as your magic caster, you don’t actual switch between them but rather play them as one character. More characters will join your team as you work your way through the story and add their special skills to the cause.

Gameplay controls allow you to attack monsters at will, jump, climb, carry items, cast magic and perform a special attack. The stylus is used for the special attacks and magic while the d-pad/buttons for normal controls, which made it a bit awkward switching back and forth between the two during battle. If stylus would have been used for menu and map functions only the controls would be easier during battle and I would have probably died less.

PS3 firmware v2.2 is live

by the hammer of Ryan Hewson!

Previously, on Firmware Stories: hit this link for all the details.

I’m curious to see if the rumoured blu-ray to PSP portable copy features are in there as well. Some studios are mulling the idea of including a standard-def PSP/iPod version of the film on the BD that you can transfer to whichever device.

If you could play any 5 games right now, what would they be?

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

5-in-1-2.jpg

A few weeks ago we asked you what five games you would play right now if you could play anything, regardless of release status. You came out and answered in droves, so did you really think we wouldn’t be asking again?

Three weeks can change an awful lot. Here’s my five as I’m feeling it this morning;

  1. Doshin the Giant (N64 DD Import — put it on the VC already, dammit!)
  2. ToeJam & Earl III: Mission to Earth
  3. Bully
  4. Okami
  5. Cash Guns Chaos

Doshin’s a first party god game for the N64 that despite two incarnations never made it’s way to the west. We’re seeing some imports pop up on the Virtual Console, so maybe Nintendo will see fit to answer my cry and finally let me get my damned hands on it.

I was just reminded of ToeJam & Earl III when I was looking up some info on that god awful children’s program Choo-Choo Soul. Turns out the broad from that did the voice of Latisha. I had wanted to try TJ&E3 back in the day but never got around to it. Sadly, it’s not backwards compatible yet.

The next two, Bully and Okami, are pretty self-explanatory. I didn’t get around to playing them when they first hit, and now that they’re seeing re-releases on new consoles I really want to pick them up. That being sai, I don’t know whether to pick up the new ones or the originals. Bully looks cleaner on the 360, but it also seems a little too colorful. Wasn’t some of the appeal to the game found in it’s drab, washed-out color scheme?

You’ve probably never heard of Cash Guns Chaos. Don’t worry, few have. It was a PSN launch title. I can’t really find many reviews on it. Mostly I want to play it to satiate my curiosity.

That’s it for me. How about you?

WiiWare Round-Up

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

Nintendo’s long awaited WiiWare service will finally be rolling out in Japan tomorrow. We won’t be getting it in North America until May 12th, and I’m honestly counting the days. Between the fantastic things developers are saying about it and the top notch original titles that have been announced for it, how can I not be excited? We haven’t really discussed it much on the site over the past few months, so I thought now would be a good time as any to roll out a few trailers and show you all why I’m so psyched about this;

PS3 Firmware v2.20 says it’s time to break out the popcorn!

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

Sony knows a larger percentage of PS3 owners are in it for the blu-ray and the blu-ray alone - games are an afterthought for a lot folks out there. That’s why firmware 2.20 is all about the movies.

Only a partial list of updates included in 2.20 have been announced. Here’s what we know so far, straight from the horse’s mouth;

Most notably, the update enables the PS3 to support Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0, also known as BD-Live. You can connect now to the Internet while playing discs that support BD-Live to obtain additional content and special features. These features vary from disc to disc, and will keep your BD discs fresh with new content and in some cases exclusive content only accessible to owners of BD-Live enabled discs. On April 8th Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release The 6th Day and Walk Hard on Blu-ray; these titles will be among the first to take advantage of BD-Live. With this update, the PLAYSTATION 3 becomes the first Blu-ray player on the market with BD-Live functionality.

Hit the jump for the rest of the juicy details;
