I’ve always really enjoyed the Ratchet and Clank trilogy on the PS2, and I’m not normally a huge fan of the platformers these days. Don’t get me wrong I love a good platformer, but finding a good one is the hard part. Enter Insomniac games, who started off with Spyro the Dragon, moved onto Ratchet and Clank, and after a misstep (in my eyes) with Resistance: Fall of Man have returned to the platform game goodness with Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. But is a return to the franchise a return to greatness or has it become another milking of the cash cow of cute and adorable characters? Continue Reading »

Hannah Montana DS: One of these games is not like the other…

by the hammer of Xav de Matos!

Hannah Montana DS + Jam Sessions + Being a Dunce for thinking this is anything like Rock Band + A basket of Kittens = Hannah Montana Music Jam!
During BitCast Episode #28 I went into a Red Bull fueled rampage on how craptastic the Hannah Montana game was for the DS. In my haste, and because I stopped reading TeenBeat when I was 13, I didn’t realize the game I had played was actually an older adventure style title and not the rhythm title we have mentioned on previous shows.

After getting a chance to play the actual Hannah Montana music-based game, stealthily titled Hannah Montana: Music Jam, I have updated my impressions.

Jump in to find out how wrong I was!

Army of Two (PS3) Hands-on

by the hammer of Xav de Matos!

army_of_two_2.jpg

Shipping this November, Army of Two promises politically charged action for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. It’s innovative co-op system aside; and trust us — Army of Two is the reason the term co-op exists — how does the near final build stack up months before release?

Jump in for all the deets, or at least to check out my Plato quote!

Half-Life 2: Episode 2 - First Impressions

by the hammer of Kevin Alexander!

Having been so caught up with the beta for the amazing Team Fortress 2 I was almost taken by surprise when I remembered that Half-Life 2: Episode 2 was coming along with it! Once I remembered I made plans to take most of yesterday morning to get through as much of the game as possible. My computer, however, had other plans. I ended up spending a good chunk of time at work reinstalling Windows and getting things “reset” with the PC. When I booted it up this morning it was running like a dream and that allowed me to spend about an hour or two getting reacquainted with my friends in the Half-Life universe.

Read on, but beware of some light spoilers! Continue Reading »

LocoRoco Cocoreccho, reviewed

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

Curiosity got the best of me this week, so I decided to break out my credit card and pop on down to the PlayStation Store and grab a copy of the just released LocoRoco Cocoreccho.

Seeing as I was sans PSP when the first Loco Roco rolled out, this was my first experience with the little yellow devils. Before I get into talking about what Cocoreccho is, I think it’s more important to tell you what it’s not.

First up: It’s not a screensaver. Sony has been touting thing as an interactive screensaver for awhile now, and nobody out there really knew what that meant. It loads in the XMB under “Games” and can’t be started in any other way. It doesn’t come up after 10 minutes of inactivity, it doesn’t protect burn-in - it saves nothing (asides from your high scores. If you’re wondering what interactive screensaver means, stop wondering — it means game.

Dynasty Warriors: GUNDAM (perhaps the most accurate title in video game history)

by the hammer of Greshkov!

What’s in a name? In this case, everything. From the title, anyone should be able to guess that all you’re going to do is repeatedly smash two buttons in a fit of robot destruction, for hours on end. What the box doesn’t tell you is that it’s kind of a better, prettier version of Mobile Suit Gundam:Federation vs Zeon for the PS2. And for people like me, that’s a good thing.

Import Impressions - Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

by the hammer of Xav de Matos!

Zelda: PH Hands-On!

Japanese is a beautiful language!

Unfortunately we don’t have any Japanese speaking or reading staffers at THEBBPS.com so you might think that would pose a problem writing an article on the import version of Link’s latest adventure… but thankfully we’ve managed just fine!

We get some hands-on time with Link’s latest adventure, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass straight from Japan.

Stop kicking that poor chicken and jump in for the deets…
