The Metal Gear mystery solved. Your next Metal Gear game is…

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

Metal Gear Solid Touch for the iPhone!  Some of you may scoff, but as a man that’s far too into gaming on my iPod Touch this is huge news in my camp.  Just take a look at those screens — if you can name even one title out there that looks better on the platform, I’ll FedEx you a cookie.

The teaser for the next Metal Gear only popped up a few weeks back, leaving me both surprised and delighted that we’ve gotten confirmation so soon.  And yes — this is definitely what was being teased.  If you visit the Japanese-language Touch Konami site, you’ll see that the green power image is the official logo for the game.  So what do we know so far?

  • will take place in the MGS4 universe.
  • “specifically designed to make full use of the iPhone’s unique touch screen capabilities.”  Hopefully this means no accelerometer bullshit.
  • will launch with 8 mission with more available at a later date.
  • available on the AppStore “Early 2009″

Also announced by Touch Konami for the iPhone; Silent Hill: The Escape, DDR S Lite and Frogger.  Hit the jump for screens of each, as well as the full press release from Konami Europe;

FieldRunners 1.1 is finally here!

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

I just woke up to some of the best day starting news I’ve had in ages — FieldRunners 1.1 is now available on the iTunes App Store!

In case you somehow missed it, FieldRunners is a tower defense game for the iPhone/iPod Touch that we reviewed a few weeks back and gushed all over.  It’s still the go-to game on my Touch, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon — especially now that we have a new map, some new Runners, and an Endless mode!  Version 1.1 is essentially a free expansion pack rather than a simple bug fix like most +.1’s end up being.

If it’s good enough for Curt Schilling, it’s good enough for you — still only $4.99 on the App Store.  Hit the jump for the full list of additions;

Review: Soul Trapper (iPhone/iPod touch)

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

When I’d first heard about Soul Trapper, my interest couldn’t have been more piqued. An audio-centric adventure game that you played more with your ears than your eyes? Who wouldn’t be interested in checking that out? As far as new ideas go, it’s definitely something that breaks new ground in the video game market. But was it ground worth breaking? Read on to find out..

JellyCar coming to iPhone!

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

Anyone remember those XNA games that were released on a limited period back in February?  Or as most of you probably called it, The Dishwasher and six other games I didn’t bother checking out?  Well one of those games was JellyCar, a physics-based vehicle game with a shitload of personality.  While everyone else went gaga over The Dishwasher, JellyCar was easily the game I liked best out of the bunch.  It’s still not available as a full XBLA title yet, but JellyCar is finally making its way to a suitable platform - the iPhone.

This release will feature the full 12 tracks from the original, as well as the 5-song soundtrack and the fantastic mouthmade sound effects that made the XNA build so endearing.  Plus tilt control has been added this time around — something that should be a great fit for this title.  The best part?  It’s free.

It’s just been submitted to Apple and awaiting the green light, so expect this one to hit the AppStore soon. If you don’t have an iPhone or just don’t want to wait, a free PC version of the game can be found here.

Review: Fieldrunners (iPhone/iPod Touch)

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

While not exactly lacking for games since the release of firmware 2.0 back in July, picking quality gaming titles out of the hundreds available on the App Store can be quite a chore.  That’s why I was so pleased when I stumbled across Fieldrunners, a tower defense game that’s as addictive as it is well-suited for the platform.

Those who read the site should know we’re no strangers to tower defense.  Our countless mentions of Desktop Tower Defense and PixelJunk Monsters should prove us old hat at the genre.  So what is it that sets FieldRunners apart?  It’s a little bit of nothing, and a little bit of everything.
