Kind of Creepy Custom Mario Figures

by the hammer of Santos Gonzalez!

Over at KodyKoala’s blog, he is showing off the realist styled Mario Figures. I both dig them and am slightly scared by them. You can check out more pictures over at this flickr.

Mario in the style of Rembrandt shirt at Woot!

by the hammer of Dan Zuccarelli!

Ok, I’m not going to take a lot of your time, it’s late and I want to go to bed. But for Saturday 11/8 while supplies last, Shirt.Woot is selling this awesome Mario Bros. inspired shirt. It’s $10 and free shipping. Also, remember to check the site on Sunday as well when they’ll feature another shirt with the “Video game as Art History” theme. It’ll probably be awesome. Yesterday’s shirt sold out FAST, so word to the wise…. buy often and early.

Mario’s Mistake

Saw this on reddit last night, no source/artist/website attached. Gave me a good little chuckle.

If anyone knows where this came from, please let us know!

Handmade game plushies in the wild

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

I had to make a quick visit to Toronto yesterday, and no trip to t.dot would be complete without a visit to the ol’ palace of geekery that is the Silver Snail. And while the addition of so much gaming paraphenalia since my last visit both suprised and excited me, it was the handmade shy guy that really got my motor revving. As you might be able to make out, he’s flanked in the back by Bub and Bob. Very cool stuff, and very worth the $25.99 asking price imo.

Etsy’s one thing — real life is another. Why not get in touch with the Silver Snail and see if you can’t buy me my Shy Guy for kwanza?

(Pardon the assy picture quality — my real camera broke just before leaving the house, and this was the best my cell phone could do in a pinch.)

My daughter’s room will look like this by Christmas

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

Long time readers of the site may recall my occassional mention of my daughters desire to have a Mario bedroom. We’ve slowly but surely been amassing a small collection of items for it, but hadn’t really come up with a big concept yet. Now we’ve found that concept.

For the not too shabby price of $74.99, you can pick up this full set of reusable vinyl decals to decorate the room of any child or man-child from ThinkGeek.

They also come in Donkey Kong and New Super Mario Bros. flavors. This man-child will be buying the Donkey Kong set for his bedroom pending wifely permissions — but only after the daughter gets hers — I’m not that selfish. How dare you accuse me of..!! Ahh — forget it.

Mountain Goats & Kaki King - “Thank You Mario But Our Princess Is in Another Castle”

by the hammer of Kevin Alexander!

I’m not terribly familiar with either artist but they’ve collaborated on an upcoming EP entitled Black Pear Tree with the 8 bit-inspired closer “Thank You Mario But Our Princess Is in Another Castle”.

It’s a quiet little number that has some very pleasant yet sparse piano and drum work with silky smooth vocals. This isn’t some nerdcore stuff here, it’s actually a pretty damn nice song. Download the song over at Stereogum. Not a bad way to end your work day if you ask me!

Gamer Ink: Mario and Peach!

by the hammer of Dan Zuccarelli!

I’ve seen enough gamer tattoo’s pass through my inbox that when I see Mario or Zelda in the subject line I can pretty much guess what I’m going to see. Luckily here that isn’t the case. Mario’s even being nice offering that cute Koopa Troopa his shell back!

This isn’t standard clipart of the normal Mario poses, and has a very nice background that will lead very nicely into a full sleeve if they ever decide o keep it going. Nice work!
