Review - Motorstorm: Pacific Rift (PlayStation 3)

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

Before I write this review, I think it’s important for me to confess about the small love affair I had with the original MotorStorm.  Not only was it my favorite racing title of the past few years (sorry Wipeout!), but it’s the game that sold me on the PlayStation 3.  Before MotorStorm hit I was really on the fence about picking a PS3 up.  Would it be a success?  Would there be enough games that I couldn’t get on my 360 to warrant a purchase?  Would Blu-Ray win out over HD-DVD?  Back in March 2007 all those questions were still up in the air.

…and then I saw MotorStorm.  It was on a playable kiosk at my local FutureShop (it’s like Best Buy, only Canadian).  Within five minutes the question went from if I should buy one to how quickly could I afford it.

While the original MotorStorm had it’s detractors, it was easy to look past it’s flaws and enjoy the creamy middle inside.  Now, only 18 months later, MotorStorm is back.  But does Pacific Rift build on the awesomeness that came before, or just retread the muddy tracks it laid down in the first game?

[Updated] A ‘Shopped Keeley Hazell Helps Launch Motorstorm: Pacific Rift in London

by the hammer of Kevin Alexander!

Here’s a handful of photos helping to promote the launch of Motorstorm: Pacific Rift over in London with a somewhat suspicious looking Keeley Hazell. Being a self-proclaimed aficionado of almost every photo ever taken of her I couldn’t help but notice that her face looks a little strange and those super famous bewbs look a tad smaller. Maybe it’s just the makeup and the top and I could be imagining things. Below you’ll find all the photos from the Motorstorm shoot and some other photos of her showing off how she usually looks (after being ’shopped, I can tell by the pixels) after the jump.

[More pics from the shoot after the jump. Don't ever say I don't love you all.]

Hit the jump for some of the only SFW pics I could find for comparison use: Continue Reading »

Aerial Shots of the Motorstorm: Pacific Rift tracks

by the hammer of Dan Zuccarelli!

For an early PS3 title Motorstorm was pretty good. Not great by any stretch, but good. The terrain got a little too monotonous for me, after a while you just had to get out of the fucking desert.

So Pacific Rift is taking it to the jungle, which you think in the end might suffer from the same problems of variety, but taking a look at the tracks below I think they’ve found a way to keep the tracks a little more unique this time round.

I was kinda sorta on the fence on this game before, but after seeing the photos below I’m totally in the “buy column.” Make sure to hit the jump, there’s 16 all together thanks to NeoGAF.

Badlands: “A giant track, racing at the feet of a giant cinder cone, Badlands has a name that’s perfectly descriptive. Wait until you see the enormous active crater you need to jump over, or the blind, sheer precipices you need to tear round at high speed if you’re to have any chance of winning. And let’s not get into the collapsed tunnels and the huge canyon jump that crosses the track 75 feet in the air. These are MotorStorm lands. These are Badlands.”
