“Twisted Metal is coming on PSThree”

by the hammer of Ryan Hewson!

clownsplosion
On the last Playstation Nation podcast, David Jaffe mentioned that he had tucked a hint away in the dubiously-titled Twisted Metal: Head On Extra Twisted release for PS2. Head On is the new “semi-anniversay/special edition” release of Twisted Metal as remixed by Jaffe’s new dev house Eat Sleep Play.

The code was embedded in one of the videos contained on the disc, unlockable by beating the game on hard. All the nerdy details are on NeoGAF:

“ok, so the super gumshoes at Gamefaqs have cracked the code from the Dark Past video on the disc.

The code is displayed with random numbers throughout the video. If you put the numbers together, and match them to their alphabetic cousins, you get -

Twisted Metal is coming on PSTHREE”

It’s a nice little teaser. And it also gives me the perfect excuse to use this awesome clownsplosion picture.

First Impressions: MX vs. ATV Untamed

by the hammer of Kevin Alexander!

The most familiar that I am with the world of Motorcross (”MX” for you cool kids) is when those crazy bastards try to do backflips during the X-Games every year. Back when I was growing up and the L.A. Coliseum could still be somewhat safely used I seem to remember seeing a crazy track constructed there that went outside the stadium at some parts. I was easily amused and thought that was pretty cool. Of course, I loved the WWF and monster trucks also, so I’m not real sure where that leaves me.

mx-vs-atv-untamed-cover.jpgIt can be safely said that though my slight interest in different types of motorized racing has fallen by the wayside my love affair of arcade racing games that started with Super Sprint and R.C. Pro-Am has never wavered. When MX vs. ATV Untamed showed up at our door I have to admit I was pretty excited. My only other experience with this series was the previous “vs.” title MX vs. ATV Unleashed. Admittedly I never spent a ton of time with that game but I think that was more a reflection of a crowded game shelf more so than the actual quality of the title. The past few days have given me more than a few hours to sit down with Untamed and give it a good whirl. So dude, you should totally hit the jump to read my totally rad opinion of what I’ve seen so far! Continue Reading »

One Hit Wonders Let Jealousy Lead Them Into Suing Guitar Hero

by the hammer of Kevin Alexander!

rpmantics3.jpg

The Romantics (You know, that band who had a hit with that shit hole song “What I Like About You”) are suing Activision over the re-recording of their bread and butter song claiming that it’s “virtually indistinguishable from the authentic version” and that consumers will be confused and think that The Romantics actually endorsed the video game “Guitar Hero Rocks The 80s”.

Imagine that. A band agrees to have their song licensed for the game but they don’t want to actually have someone do justice to it and make it sound decent. Oh, but they’ll gladly take the licensing fee.

Fuck off you assholes. Go climb back into your hole of shitty 80s music. Know what the hell you’re getting into before you decide to take someone’s money.

First Impressions: Buzz! The Mega Quiz

by the hammer of Kevin Alexander!

buzz-mega-quiz-cover.jpg

Around my house party games are pretty big. We love a good, beer-soaked night of Karaoke Revolution topped off with a few rounds of Catch Phrase or Cranium. When I found out about Buzz! The Mega Quiz for the PS2 I was cautiously optimistic, hoping for another game to add to our rotation. Really, games are never more fun than when you’re playing with a bunch of friends. Concurrently, victory is never more sweet than when you’ve proven how much smarter you are than them also…even if it is with meaningless pop culture bits interspersed with “real” questions.

Over the past few nights I was able to play through (and win!) a couple of rounds so after the jump I’ll give you the lowdown on what I thought. Continue Reading »

Final Guitar Hero 80’s edition song list/release date announced

by the hammer of Dan Zuccarelli!

gh80.jpgWell here it is… fresh off the wire. The final song list for Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80’s. To those out there hoping there’d be some last minute gold level additions, you’re gonna be disappointed. The new additions have a few “ok” songs but nothing that screams “buy me.”

It obvious now that the songs that were cheap to license but weren’t very good have been relegated to this expansion pack. ‘Bout the only new one here I’m diggin is Seventeen. If you’re excited for this one, you can pick it up on July 24th for the PS2 only.

New Tracks:

  • Caught in a Mosh (as made famous by Anthrax)
  • Balls to the Wall (as made famous by Accept)
  • Electric Eye (by Judas Priest)
  • Los Angeles (as made famous by X)
  • Police Truck (as made famous by Dead Kennedys)
  • We Got the Beat (as made famous by The Go Go’s)
  • (I Think I’m) Turning Japanese (as made famous by Vapors)
  • Seventeen (as made famous by Winger)
  • Because, it’s Midnite (by Limozeen)

Previously announced tracks are… Continue Reading »
