X07: Accessorize!

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

That’s right kiddies, Microsoft wasn’t just their to pimp their games and XNA — they had new toys to play with too!

Pictured above are the weakest entry in this years line up, pink and blue 360 controllers. PR was pitching them to me as handy to have if you have a lot of four player gaming going on and you want to know whose controller is whose — I didn’t have the heart to tell them that the ring on the controller can do the same thing without making me look like a little pink princess.

Luckily, everything else on display in the accessories part of town was reeking of awesomeness (and completely devoid of pastel colours) — like the Messenger Kit.

X07: Hands (and foot) on with Rock Band

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

rockband_header.jpg
If you’re a regular reader of the site, you’ve no doubt discovered our not so secret love for all things Harmonix. That’s why, up until now, Rock Band was at the top of my list for most anticipated games this fall. Don’t let that last sentence fool you - I’m still excited as all get out and definitely picking it up the day it hits. But now that I’ve gone hands on with it? I’ll be honest with you - it’s not everything that everyone has been making it sound to be.

My nitpickiness is going to focus on one thing and one thing alone — the drums. They’re the only thing I played and the only thing I cared about. I couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket, and although the full sized guitars looked sweet they’ve still got a “been there, done that” feel in my mind. So for me, Rock Band has always been about the drums. They could have just named it “Jim’s Drum Simulator” and it would have been just as accurate a title. Hit the jump for both still and moving images of me humiliating myself.

Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles Japanese trailer

by the hammer of Dan Zuccarelli!

Those of us who just can’t get enough of zombie killing certainly have a real gem to look forward to in Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. If they can pull off the 1st person action using the Wii-mote, this one’s gonna be fantastic.

Dynasty Warriors + Gundam = Robot on Robot carnage

by the hammer of Dan Zuccarelli!

Namco Bandai and Koei have combined forces and have created a mash-up game of sorts called Dynasty Warriors:GUNDAM. You get the combination of the one-against-many play style of Dynasty Warriors but instead of playing a solider you get to pilot the robot Gundam. What’s this mean? We’ll be beam sabering tons upon tons of enemy Gundam, leaving a trail of twisted metal in our wake.

The game is going to combine quite a few of the Gundam series into one storyline for the game, and will contain elements of First, Mobile Suit Gundam, Turn A, Zeta Gundam and of course Gundam Wing. [Update: G Gundam is also included] We’re also going to see appearances from some of your favorite Gundam characters. As a bonus, they’ll also be playable. Continue Reading »

Live out all your Backdraft fantasies with “Real Heroes: Firefighter” for the Wii

by the hammer of Dan Zuccarelli!

flames-sml.jpg
So for the past few days all we’ve heard about is murder and mayhem on the Wii (or really the lack thereof with Manhunt 2 being pulled), but let’s shift forcus towards something more positive. Real Heroes: Firefighter is set to have us not takes lives and property but to save it, and potends to use the Nintendo’s Wii-mote like a firehose, the jaws of life and an axe all in one (quite the little device!).

The company producing the game, Epicenter Studios (made up of mostly ex-Call of Duty people) are also touting something they’re calling “Thinking Fire”. Firefighters will tell you that a fire is practicially a living-breathing thing and can change and react at any time.

“[The] blazes will seem almost alive as they not only attack structures, potential victims and firefighters, but also cause unexpected changes to the environments that will suddenly alter the player’s options and strategies – no two scenarios will play out the same way.”

If it works, it could be a very cool game indeed. There was a Sega arcade game a few years back that had you control a fire hose with a makeshift nozzle, and I’m guessing the experience will be somewhat similar.

No screenshots or video yet, but you can spot the full press release after the jump.
