Wii-kly Virtual Console Update: 09/29/08

by the hammer of Tim Horn!

Two more WiiWare games and one on the Virtual Console came out, today. Starting with WiiWare, Art Style: Orbient (600 Wii Points) makes its debut and I really have no idea what it’s about other than what’s in the press release. It seems you control a star and you navigate it through 50 areas across multiple galaxies. You can collide with other stars to get bigger or capture them to have them act as satellites. You should make it through OK so long as you avoid obstacles and black holes. If you try it out, let us know what you think.

The other title on WiiWare is Bomberman Blast (1,000 Wii Points). This classic Hudson series makes yet another appearance on home consoles. This variation on the same theme features some hot Wii-mote shaking action to activate items that you get while trying to blow up your friends. You’ll also be able to slap your Miis in the game (not literally, though). I like Bomberman, but not enough for the chance to shake my Wii-mote some more.

Finally, on the Virtual Console, Super Turrican 2 (SNES, 800 Wii Points) adds more run-’n-gun action to the system. For an idea of what it’s like, think back the old SNES Star Wars games and Contra. Super Turrican 2 was a last generation title for the SNES and it still looks and sounds pretty good. Anyway, if this style of game is what you’re in the mood for, go for it.

That’s it for me, so have fun shopping! Read up on the full details after the jump. Continue Reading »

How-to replace your old SNES cart batteries

by the hammer of Dan Zuccarelli!

As time goes one this is going to be more and more of an issue for collectors and those of us out there that like playing the old games. Any carts that let you save the game on it was powered by a battery, whose lifespan is now more than likely way past expectations. So sooner or later you’re gonna have to replace that battery.

Luckily the guys from JJGames.com made a little video showing off the process and it’s not too terrifying.

ESRB post a rating for Earthbound on the Wii

by the hammer of Dan Zuccarelli!

Woot!
Actually, Double Woot!

I’ve always felt like kind of an idiot for having missed out on Earthbound when it came out for the SNES, and I’ve been hoping (praying) that it would eventually be included in a “Greatest Hits” or retro collection or something…. anything. Luckily, it looks like I’ll finally be able to make up for the past mistake of not playing it.

Found on the ESRB site is a supposed rating for Earthbound on the Wii, and since a new Earthbound is pretty much out of the question this is most likely a release of the original via the Wii Virtual Console.

Fingers crossed people!

The 1st SNES controller tattoo I’ve seen

by the hammer of Dan Zuccarelli!

We’ve seen a fair amount of NES controller tattoos on the site here, but this one here is a 1st for me. Two matching SNES tats, in one of those “hard to cover-up” areas. I do love the gamer tat, I’m just slightly leery on such an exposed place.

Not to mention it looks like it hurt like hell there. Ouch

We love the gamer ink here, so if you’ve got one send it in!
