Wii-kly Virtual Console Update: 09/01/08

by the hammer of Tim Horn!

Well, it’s a good week for most on this weeks VC update. Why you ask? Super Mario RPG (SNES, 800 Wii Points). At last, I know. They certainly took their sweet, sweet time. But now the likes of Mallow, Geno, Peach, Mario and Bowser. I’ve got a copy of the original, but that won’t keep me from screaming at you to get it if you don’t already have it.

The other flavor on the VC bar is Clu Clu Land (NES, 500 Wii Points). Don’t know much about this title other than what’s in the press release. It’s an underwater puzzle game of sorts that actually sounds pretty interesting. Might be worth a look. Make the jump to read up on it or tell us how you liked it.

Finally, WiiWare gives up some of its hawt lovin’ with My Aquarium (500 Wii Points). Initially, I imagined that Canadian Fireplace channel that Jim always watches with the eternally burning Yule log. Anyway, you can choose from a few different aquariums, 40 fish, and decorate the tank as you please. There you have it. I will now leave you with a Japanese Super Mario RPG commercial and the full details for this week’s selection of games. Enjoy!

Wii-kly Virtual Console Update: 08/25/08

by the hammer of Tim Horn!

Another Monday, another update to the Virtual Console and WiiWare catalog. Helix (1,000 Wii Points) arrives on WiiWare as a new rhythm game. I find it difficult to get a clear image in my head of what it’s like t play this game from the press release, so I’ve posted some footage of it in action after the jump. It brings DDR to mind, but a bit simpler in its presentation and the use of the Wii controls to do things.

As for the Virtual Console, Ys Book I & II (TurboGrafx16 CD-ROM, 800 Wii Points) and Samurai Showdown 2 (NEOGEO, 900 Wii Points) make a pretty attractive couple. I’ve always wanted to give Ys Book I & II a try, but didn’t always want to shell out the cash for the TG16 CD drive. At least the option to download and play it is not only easier, but a good deal cheaper, too.

For some hot fighting action, Samurai Showdown 2 will hit the spot. I’ve got it in one form or another, so downloading it on the VC would just be redundant. It’s been a long time since I’ve played, though. I kind of wonder how it holds up since the last time I played it about 3-4 years ago?

Well, that’s all I’ve got for this week’s VC update. For more information and footage of Helix, make the jump.

Wii-kly Virtual Console Update: 08/11/08

by the hammer of Tim Horn!

More Virtual Console goodness comes to the Wii this week. Sadly, the only game on this week’s VC list that I’ve heard of is Star Parodier (TurboGrafx 16 CD-ROM, 900 Wii Points) and I’ve yet to ever play this spoof of Star Soldier. The other VC item for the day is a pool game called, Break In (TurboGrafx 16, 700 Wii Points). As for WiiWare, Strong Bad Episode 1: Homestar Ruiner (1,000 Wii Points) makes an appearance for Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People. You can check out Jim’s review of it just below.

That’s about all there is to say for this week’s short-n’-sweet update. For more details, make the jump.

Review: StrongBad’s Cool Game For Attractive People Episode 1, Homestar Ruiner (PC/WiiWare)

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

In the world of online entertainment, you’d be hard pressed to find something that has been as consistently funny as Strongbad. You’d also be hard-pressed to find something that has survived so long on the web. For 8 years now Mike and Matt Chapman have been churning out laughs and building a universe of their own. Such ongoing success is a testament to the strength of the franchise. No wonder they decided it was time to branch out into the world of gaming. So how did Homestar Runner, the first episode of StrongBad’s Cool Game For Attractive People turn out? SBCGFAP is the best game Telltale has done to date.

Mega Man 9 trailer, multiplatform confirmed

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

There’s been a lot of talk about Mega Man 9 and where you’ll be able to play it. First it was WiiWare exclusive. Then it wasn’t. Then it was again. Then it wasn’t. Now courtesy of the official trailer coming out of E3 it looks like we can confirm that it will appear on WiiWare, Live Arcade and the PlayStation Store.

Yeah, this news has been out for a couple of days — but hey — it gave me an excuse to post this kick ass trailer. Part of me wants to hate this one, but seeing MM9 in action (how cool is the elephant??) keeps my loins at their moistest.

Wii-kly Virtual Console Update: 07/07/08

by the hammer of Tim Horn!

WiiWare and the Virtual Console both get a single new addition to their respective catalogs. For WiiWare, which I have yet to download anything from, we have SPOGS Racing for 1,000 Wii Points. That, as you may have already guessed, is a racing game. Not much more to be said about that.

As for the Virtual Console, King of the Monsters (NEOGEO, 900 Wii Points) storms on to the scene with massive monsters fighting each other, taking down buildings along the way. Taking a note from wrestling, the game requires you to wear down your opponent so that you may pin him/her/it down for a three-count to win the match. That’s about all I have for this afternoon. If you would like more information, make the jump.

Mega Man 9 footage surfaces

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

I’ve made no secret of my saliva-enducing anticipation for this one. Judging by the comments on my last post, neither have you.

Now courtesy of GoNintendo we have our first look at the game in moving pictures. /drool. The soundtrack alone is making me moist in my areas.
