Feel Free To Keep On Exploiting Pub Games Glitch

by the hammer of Kevin Alexander!

Remember all that hubbub Molyneux made about how people who exploited the glitch in Pub Games (that they supposedly left in there on purpose) would be punished in-game? Yeah, not so much.

Last night I finally made my to a gamemaster in town and merged my in-game hero with my Pub Games patron, complete with a small fortune in glitch-enabled gold. So far, not a single thing has happened to me and has also enabled me to start my in-game goal of marrying almost every woman I see. So far, three wives, two kids in two towns, all happy.

After I got done with playing Fable II I decided to load up Pub Games, which I haven’t done since the glitch-fix patch was released. When it prompted me to patch the game I declined and was still able to go in to the game, choose my in-game hero and continue to exploit the Fortune’s Tower glitch.

Good times.

Really though, it’s not like it’s all that hard to make money in Fable II. Blacksmithing and bartending both yield pretty good amounts of money so it’s not like I’m truly exploiting the system. At least that’s what I tell myself…and that I did this as “research” for you guys, our beloved readers.

Yahtzee Vs. Not 1 but 2! XBLA games

by the hammer of Dan Zuccarelli!

We’ve definitely moved away from posting these Zero Punctuation reviews every week, but this one made me laugh enough that I felt like it was post worthy. The guy’s grasp of the metaphor almost makes me wish he’d ditch the fast-talking thing and write a column somewhere.

This week he takes on Bionic Commando and Castle Crashers

Castle Crashers Soundtrack is awesome, free, complicated

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

If you own a 360, you’ve played Castle Crashers. If you’ve played Castle Crashers, you’ve heard the soundtrack. If you’ve heard the soundtrack, you’ve had an eargasm. Now you ears can explode their waxy goodness anytime you want, as the entire Castle Crashers soundtrack is available online and for free.

The catch? It was lovingly compiled by some forumites on GameSpot using links to the individual tracks hosted on Newgrounds. That means getting every single track is going to take a little more work than a simple one click download. Is it worth it? Blue Knight says yes.

Wordpress keeps eating the link. Here it is for the fourth time. I’m going to go buy a gun.

Wallpaper: Triple-wide Braid desktop

by the hammer of Dan Zuccarelli!

This one here comes straight from Braid artist David Hellman’s website. There’s actually quite a few posts about the art direction for Braid, and it’s most definitely worth a read.

But he ends with that he presents as a background for someone running not one, not two but three monitors! Now I seriously doubt most readers here are running triple wide, but if you are snap up a pic and we’ll feature your extreme nerdery on the site!

Here’s the desktop in all its 3104X720 goodness. Luckily you can just use part of it if you like!

Review: Galaga Legions

by the hammer of Dan Zuccarelli!

We’ve had quite an inspired run of updated classics lately. After years of simple cash-ins we saw the likes of Pac-Man Championship Edition and Space Invaders Extreme challenge our perception of what an “update” could really be. Hell, when Pac-Man Champ first hit XBLA I looked right past it as another in a long line of nostalgia cash grabs. But the game seriously kicks-ass. So can Galaga Legions keep up the streak of updated classics? Or does the game stray too far from it’s roots to deserve the Galaga name? Continue Reading »

X08 Canada: We try to sort out the Braid pricing fiasco

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

One of the real highlights of the day for me was sitting down with Jason Ing, Group Product Manager for for Xbox LIVE Games. Jason’s responsible for getting the word out on anything and everything that offers a complete gaming experience through LIVE, so I just had to ask him about the Braid pricing debacle that got under everybody’s skin a few weeks back. I asked him point blank: Microsoft said one thing and did another. What happened?

To clarify, I mentioned exactly what was reported on ShackNews. Here’s a refresher: “Microsoft has informed Shacknews that the reported $22.50 price point for Castle Crashers and $15 Braid price, believed to stem from a now-removed Microsoft Japan listing, are incorrect for both domestic and international markets.” Here’s what Jason Ing had to say;

We said that the information posted is incorrect from the standpoint that… it was incorrect that they posted, but we didn’t say the price (was incorrect).

So was it simply just a misunderstanding on ShackNews part?

I’ll be honest, it was messaged poorly. That’s a problem. I was a little upset with my PR agency and how they messaged it because we meant to say “No no no, we’re not announcing pricing yet.” And when you use the word “incorrect”, even when I think out loud, yeah, it could sound like (the information posted was wrong).

So there you have it. Somewhere between Microsoft, PR, and ShackNews the information got a little muddled. It’s kind of like playing telephone, only this time hearing “purple monkey dishwasher” at the end instead of “we’re not announcing pricing yet” gets a lot of gamers really pissed off.
