Dad Nails Xbox To Tree, Children Next?

by the hammer of Tim Horn!

Someone on CNN’s iReport has posted a picture of their children’s Xbox nailed to a tree. How did it get that way? Well, it would seem the kids were being a bit bratish while they played games on the poor, innocent Xbox. When the boys did not respond to their Father’s requests to behave, he had the Xbox nailed to a tree in their backyard.

It wasn’t the brightest thing to do. Rather than nail it to the tree in what looks like 2 pieces, wouldn’t you have rather made some money off of it instead? I mean, cash does do a bit more for you than a bullet-deflecting Xbox nailed to a tree, right? What do you think?

A Costly Lesson… [iReport]

Madden 09 for the Xbox - CONFIRMED!!

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

Yesterday we brought up a rumor that seemed too bizarre to be true: according to wikipedia, Madden 09 was shipping for the original Xbox. With nothing else to back it up we couldn’t help but feel this was probably just a massive typo. Eagle-eyed reader Toad64 saw thing differently. Never one to back down from a scavenger hunt, he tracked down copies for purchase on the Target website complete with official box art.

So there you have it kids — the Xbox library isn’t as dead as we thought.

Madden 09 …on Xbox?!?

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

For those of us that like to keep track of a console’s life cycle ER style, you were able to call the original Xbox’s on August 12th, 2008. It was the day Madden 08 was released — the last disc to ever drop for the console… or was it?

A year to the day, like sightings of a resurrected Jesus or a Houdini seance, Madden 09 is listed on the wikipedia pages for both Madden 09 and List of Xbox Games as releasing on the original console as well.

The official website doesn’t list it as a platform, nor does anywhere else on the net that I an find. And yet it’s such a glaring oversight on a wikipedia page that is likely monitored pretty frequently for accuracy by EA that I can’t help but wonder — did Madden somehow play Dr. Frankenstein to the original Xbox?

Halo Sneakers Sure to Help You Boost

by the hammer of Hawty McBloggy!

Adidas continues the roll out of 20 different versions of the Gil II Zero (the signature shoe for basketball star Gilbert Arenas) with the most recent addition being the Gil II Zero Halo Sneaker. Arenas love of the popular shooter was the inspiration behind this particular design. Apparently he spends eight hours on off-season weekends playing Halo, with the majority of that time spent boosting. Yeah, I haven’t forgotten that whole debacle. Hopefully the kids will strive to follow his sports achievements rather than his video game ones. Regardless, only 100 pairs of these sneakers will be released so good luck getting your hands on a pair. As if you would want to anyways. Yuck.

The Wallpaper Game

by the hammer of Hawty McBloggy!

Dan seems to be on a wallpaper kick lately so I thought I would play The Wallpaper Game too. This is currently the wallpaper on my desktop. The image is done by my favorite gaming artist Pavel Dolgov.

If you want it too, it can be found at 360style.net’s wallpaper gallery in the misc section (very bottom of the left column) and is available in 1024×768, 1280×960, and 1600×1200.

New backwards compatibility update for the 360 adds support for classics like Zathura, Super Shrek Party

by the hammer of Dan Zuccarelli!

topdown_xbox.jpg
With this new update, about 300 Xbox 1 titles will be compatible with the 360. And correct me if I’m wrong, this is the last update we’ll see for backwards compatibility as well, though I’m not upset.

While I don’t mind that the 360 can play Xbox 1 games, the number of times I’ve taken advantage of this feature is exactly zero. I’m sure there are people out there jazzed about being able to play Blinx: The Timesweeper on their 360’s, but let’s be honest… those people are few and far between.

Fall Dashboard Update revealed!

by the hammer of Jim Squires!

fallupdate.jpg

Barely squeaking into the fall season, Official Xbox Magazine is reporting that the 360’s Fall Dashboard Update will be hitting on December 2nd. This years big change? Xbox games on XBLM! That’s right kiddies — as of December 2 you’ll be able to download Halo, Fable, Indigo Prophecy, Crimson Skies, Burnout 3, and Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex. Each of these will run you a measly 1200 points, and considering the gold sticker that the first five of those titles deserve, I’d have to say that’s an absolute steal. Especially Indigo Prophecy — talk about a brilliant game that flew under everyone’s radar (even though it really fell apart at the end.)

No word yet on how Microsoft expects us to cram these onto our already full 20 gig hard drives — maybe we’ll get lucky and they’ll have found some way to whittle the sizes down to something manageable.

The other bit of news that some sources are reporting on is the addition of the Video Marketplace for Europe. That’s great and all, but what about the promise Microsoft made to give it to those of us in the Great White North by the end of the year?

This story was broken by CVG, but they’ve since removed the story (probably due to a C&D, but who can really say?) so I’ll let you all see what Joystiq has had to say about it. God bless the source train.

And to answer your question before you ask it, yes, lolcatz is still funny to us.
