BitCast: Episode 68 - A Little Of This, A Little Of That

EDIT: We've become aware today that our iTunes store RSS feed is not working correctly. We hope to have this problem resolved ASAP. For now please listen in-browser or download the show below! Thanks for your patience!

Most of you guys know that we don't really get paid for this, but we love doing it (most of the time, anyway). Unfortunately that means that some times it's hard getting everyone together or having enough time to properly prepare a show. Such is that case this week and why we missed last week. Fortunately, however, it does mean that we were able to get our old friend and Master Of The Joystiq Universe (well, in our eyes at least) Xav De Matos in a guest spot role for this show!

This week we touch on a few different things such as:

  • What'cha Been Playing (Start - 52:03)
  • Browser Games (52:19 - 59:35)
  • BitCast Listener Feedback (59:35 - 1:12:14)
  • One Last Thing (1:12:14 - End)
Next week we WILL be back on time, even if I have to do the show by myself! Until then if you'd like to leave us some feedback or ask us a question, drop one in the comments for this episode or email us at thebbps at gmail dot com. As always you can also drop me a voicemail on Skype at kevin-alexander so until next week, thanks for checking out the show!

It's actually called Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena... I said Attack, for some reason.

I am glad you can appreciate my "Nintendo prejudice" comments as jests. Sometimes I like to rile people up. After 2 generations as a Nintendo-only console owner, waiting 6 months for the next Nintendo release while competing consoles got tons of great third-party games, the current market trend is like vindication. Perhaps that is the very definition of a fanboy.

I am sure the X360 and PS3 will continue to deliver great traditional games, but I predict they will become less with each passing year. Competition is fierce, and development costs are sky-rocketing. I would expect many traditoonal games to be cancelled as developers move support to the Wii. I can only hope that support does not continue to be half-assed mini-game compliations and "casual" titles that end with a backwards "Z".

I do not want to see traditional developers go bankrupt, if only for the sake of the many people who could lose their jobs. And I am sure ALL future consoles will support HD resolutions. But the age of "bigger, faster, better" hardware defining a console generation is over. Developers and console manufacturers must adapt.

I always appreciate a new Bitcast, and I appreciate the thankless and profitless toil it takes to produce one merely for me to enjoy. BBPS is still one of my favorite websites, not for simply repeating the same news as hundreds of other sites on the internet, but for more intelligent discussion of videogame culture.
